TX3. vs. T3

If you want a Tikka, you can take any T3 or T3x. The question would only be if it is "that CTR stainless in 260 REM" )

If you have doubts about T3, T3x won't be any better. So don't get a Tikka regardless of x or not.

They filled the stock to be quiet, made synthetic stocks have modular grips, ejection port is wider, added an extra tread point for other rail options, changed the bolt shroud from plastic to fantastic.... I mean metal, and changed the recoil lugs from aluminum to steel. Those are the changes they made. Up to you to decide if it's worth it.

Ive owned pretty much every factory rifle made and nothing beats the value of a Tikka. Mine all shoot exceptional with next to no load development, they eject and cycle perfect, they come with a detach mag...mods are simple and cheap and require no gunsmith and they hold their value. Ive owned numerous T3's since they came out and have never had a shroud fail....never had a trigger guard break,,,never had a mag fail...never an issue with the recoil lug.
Given the choice I buy a reg T3 if you can find one in the cal you want but if not buy the new T3X Im sure you will not be dissapointed.

Cheers!!

Like Scott, I have owned a plethora of rifles, and like the Howa 1500, it's hard to beat Tikka for value. The T3 is a simple, no-nonsense design that works very well. They are also among the lightest rifles on the market without the superlight price tag. My current T3 has an aftermarket aluminum shroud, titanium recoil lug and came with a nice, tight fitting factory oiled walnut stock and excellent sights. It's a tack driver using factory 150grain Fusion (30-06). BTW, it didn't need the aftermarket shroud or lug, I did it "just because". I also attached a nice bolt handle with a larger bolt knob--easy to do on a T3. The Sako barreled-action + Tikka T3 trigger is the best part of the package, but I have grown to appreciate glass reinforced polymer--it's light, strong, doesn't dent and doesn't rust. Great for a working rifle. Nothing wrong with the T3X. If you think there are better rifles in the same price range, enjoy your selection. I'm done with Savage, Remlin, Remington and Kel Tec.

My t3 is my first .bought last July 2 its a 6.5x55 hunter and for $699 I think I got a hell of good rifle . I also upgraded the bolt shroud . I have got it shoot fairly easily I might add sub moa with all bullets weights I have loaded for it . it shot the 140gr blue box feds reasonably well . sellier & belliot 140gr where huntable but not stellar .

I bought a fn made winchester m70 on the ee last year for $750. Very few rounds down the tube. Now that is a lifetime gun worth of being based down. Would you still take a mostly plastic and "allow" tikka for what they charge now?

I'm another T3 fan, the 2 i own are very accurate and great to carry. They are my go to guns for now, I can rely on them to function and shoot well. If I do my part. Haven't had a chance to handle a T3x but at $699 for the ones I have I don't think i'd go much higher.

Look for a good deal on a T3 lite or varmint model and buy a B&C Medalist stock and put it in that. Then get that metal bolt shroud. You could even get the aftermarket bottom metal but it is not needed really. Most of the ones done like this are real shooters with a great smooth action and are far more reliable than some of the other stuff on the market. Their real issue is the stock which is too flexible.

We did this with my son's 300 WSM and got it shooting into 1/2 moa with some load workups, and I have helped others do the same with similar results.

Comparing a used gun price with a new cost for the T3 or T3x is not what I would say is a good argument. I like the Winchester Supremes but the Tikka rifles are just fine.
