Type 81 is approved!!!!!

Did they not say that it was to be restricted? Or is a non restricted one coming too that I'm unaware of?

The difference between restricted and non restricted is barrel length alone. The sample submitted to the lab had a restricted barrel, thus restricted frt.

Bring in longer barrels and voila, non restricted. No long wait at the lab needed. It's that simple.

Put me down for 3.
Type 81 + 10RD AK mags?
Oh mama.
"The Canadian contract Type 81’s will accept AK-pattern magazines, but standard AK magazines will not operate the bolt hold-open feature."

"In terms of model availability, it is a given that rifles will be imported in both non-restricted and restricted lengths, with most probably being chambered in 7.62×39. However, Norinco has produced a variant of the Type 81 in 5.56 in the past for export to the US market, so it may be possible for future imports to include other calibres. As yet, price remains unknown, as production of Canadian-specification Type 81s is currently not underway and the earliest estimates for first delivery are pegged at 8 months from now."

Trudeau will have Parliament reclassify it to prohibited, and use it as propoganda fodder as to why bill C42 should be repealed - with even more strict controls replacing it. Discretionary powers for CFO's will be re-instated, and OIC changes will be removed.

There, that's my 'glass half empty' take on it....

I hope I can get my hands on one before all that takes place :)

Most of us dont want to even think about it. But on that note its already been approved theres no final say on it by the government in this case. They just have to get here

WHEN these came to the Canadian market with a NR barrel I really, really, hope the venders have the 18.5 inch barrel have a clean AK"ish" barrel and not that heavily ribbed profile they currently have. Also threaded to accept AK muzzle devices/brakes and be able to accept a AK front sight. Keep these in the sub $1,000 range and they will sell well.

Well I do not plan on buying one unless they are around$500, having said that Trudeau was going to give the decision making back to the RCMP and that is who approved this rifle so they would have to change their own mind, proving they are incompetent,!

They will be over $500 I'm sure of that. My guess is somewhere around $800. I'd be very surprised and disappointed if they hit 4 figures.

So many naysayers. This is a positive thing folks! They APPROVED it. FFS.
I want one. Simple as that.

I think the dealers know this will directly compete with VZ/CSA, if they want to sell many like they did with the VZs, they need to keep it under 1k.

Considering the vz are milled and made in a country that likely has a higher labour cost this should not be hard to do.
