I recently purchased my first gun, a 2020 production Type 81 LMG. I'm very happy with my purchase, however I thought I should post about this imperfection with my rifle.
The bolt is a different finish from the bolt carrier. The carrier is the proper silver finish while the bolt is a dark gray or black finish.
I've contacted TI and they have told me they believe it to be "purely cosmetic".
I haven't taken her to the range yet but the bolt is serial matched, the extractor works and the gun cycles and locks up properly.
What kind of finish is that on the bolt? Do you think it will inhibit function in any way, or cause increased wear on the bolt?
I'm not actually upset at this, I think it looks unique, like heterochromia. Sure is a lot better than getting a bent rifle. Just wondering if I should be worrisome.
