I have a type 81 lmg that I want to add a muzzle device on, it doesn’t have the old m16x1 thread but the new one. The problem is I don’t know if the new one is m14x1 rh or if it is a 5/8 x24. I saw on a thread that the new thread is the same as a vz 58 which is a m16x1 rh but kodiac defense sells a compensator with the being 5/8x24. I like the way a2 birdcage looks and want to put it on my rifle but don’t know what thread it is. I am new to guns and would really appreciate if someone can help me figure out what thread is on the new type 81 lmg thanks.

7.62x39 VZ 58s are M14x1mm.

As far as im aware Type 81sa LMGs only came in 2 threads... M16x1mm & M14x1mm.

Also, common nomenclature is that right hand threads (RH) dont need to be labeled as "RH". Only left hand (LH) threads do. This is why on the internet u may see many threads dont have "RH" in them but yet they are infact RH.

I tried to m14x1 thread on my new type 81 lmg and can confirm that it worked. I’ll keep this thread up for anyone that ever gets as confused as I did. Thanks to everyone that replied

I plan to if the machine shop has the right tools. I need one for my Tabuk build this winter and i would rather not use an adapter cus I think they look ugly.

There was a guy on CGN a few months back willing to do the same and was probing for interest in the endeavor. But i havent heard of it since.
