Type 81 - Pictures, Q&A, etc. PICS ADDED! :)

Thanks for the magazines comparison, I just wonder if you have any AK 47 Pmag to try out, I'm really curious to find out. Thanks in advance.

Tapco Pmag kind of fits if I force it in and the metal shaves some of the Pmag off... You need to file down the front pmag locking tab. However, not sure if it feeds. Will try once at the range.

Oddly enough, the Type 81 mag fits in an AK, albeit barely.

Well official 81 mags are what $30, this weapon will take off as ppl want an ak clone so I’m sure there be tons of aftermarket mags and accessories just like the sks in due time. $30 ain’t bad a mag if consider Norinco m305 mags are $50 plus

The rifle is beautiful and really thinking about picking one up
Good work for posting this early, definitely highlight of the day.

That being said, I do have one question about T81.
although the rail can accommodate for optics and such, I still like the side mount style on these Eastern Block rifles.
Do you think it is possible to perhaps install a side rail on T81?
Is there enough room inside the receiver? Is the left side of the receiver flat enough to install something like that?

I don't know yet but I have a side rail ready to try when I get mine.

seems like this is one way to do it
but I still like the russian style...

however, I have seen a picture where a true Russian side style optic is mounted on the side

lemme try to find that picture

Here are some pics someone in the Chinese army sent me via Instagram. Little tease ;)

Interesting, factory 26 built this rifle.

Question, the rod under the barrel would be too short so is there an extending rod in the cleaning kit in the folder?

Only one way to find out

I wonder what the production version will looks like. It would be SWEET if they have military-style triangle-factory codes similar to the above PLA rifle.

I also much prefer that dark lacquered furniture over the blonde stuff we are getting, but oh well.

Woods an easy fix just sand and stain to your desired shade then lacquer it up and put furniture back on

I wouldn’t sand personally, I refinish old rifles and you generally don’t want to loose any wood. It seems it will have the communist polyurethane as well, a stripper would be best. You’re good to go on the full stocks but the cheek plate of the 81-1 folding stock is plastic and colour is its colour

Hmmm good point. Perhaps I'll skip sanding and use a stripper instead. What do you suggest?

There is certainly enough meat, it would be about getting the right position. I think it's doable.

I really hope so too! That would be sweet.

Really any chemical stripper. The citrus stuff is garbage. It’s all good , just make sure you remove all furniture first as it will strip the bluing right. I’ve never had any issues, I usually strip then restrain and leave it open wood. I seal the wood with BLO, maybe 2-3 coats over as many days. I prefer open wood as if it gets damaged just slap some BLO on it and she drinks it up and ur looking good. Depends on your tastes so.. Ill do open wood as I believe the PLA 81s are open wood.
