Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

Thank you kindly! Unfortunately I did not have time to develop the load for it. I hope it to be capable of 1 MOA, as the donor barrel was doing 0.25MOA pretty consistently in the Ruger American.
I can't do services as I am not licensed for that, however I may sell some of my projects later on, to fund new ones.
The projects underway that I plan to part with in the near future are (of course N/R):

- Tabuk-inspired LMG DMR in 6mm ARC + new RCBC dies. I am sure people know - the 6mm (Advanced Rifle Cartridge) is basically a "6mm Grendel" for the lack of better comparison. A small low-recoil cartridge designed for the 1000yd military/varmint use by Hornady
- T81 folder in 5.56 NATO (using the T97 barrel). For this one I just can't find AK mags in either 5.56 or 5.45, to make sure it cycles well. I may need to start looking for the VZ 223 mags for that purpose I guess

Ah, gotcha. Wonder if any businesses on here would take on such a project. Between you and Murray, you could create a Warsaw Pact DMR cottage industry for Canada!

I was thinking of Motiuk Mfg - he is a wizard. I guess he could do those conversions commercially, one or two per day :)

Id like to see that guy make a PSL clone from a Valmet.

So what's your new project?

I saw some of your utube videos. You put a lot of work into it which is not commercially viable. Personally I think people would go for small stuff, like fake AK selector and folding/underfolder stocks, also ways to take the bulkyness out of the LMG, we already see that it is possible.

What happened to your type 81 side mount?

No time for new projects haha, gotta finish the old ones. The Scope mount plus other goodies is still very much happening. Its all just progressing slower then id like at the moment.

If someone handed me a 308 Valmet M78 and a bunch of cash I could get it done haha. But I've got a bunch of other projects that need to be done. If I could just track down a Dragunov rear sight base, and handguard cap/support, then the SVT to Dragunov project could finally be done.

Pics of the Type 81 I "fixed" in order to make it more like an actual Chinese Type 81-1. Bayonet actually fits and works now.

They are. LMG has a slant end and the carbine has a right angle end

Wonder why they did that, other than just to make swapping a pain lol. Also, I'm very seriously considering getting a DMR like yours made up, so do up a range report sometime! I'm dying for more performance details haha

I've been going back and forth with buying an LMG or SE Folder. I really like what id64 did with his. What triangle folders are out there that I could make work? I known it means machining some kind of adapter for the receiver.

More Russian now :)

Very nice! Another thing I think of to complete the look is to push the sight base back to the cleaning rod holder and to mount a custom muzzle device to hide that extra 1.5" of a barrel - that will make it look totally like a Vepr (Boar in Russian :)))
Vepr is also a derivative of an RPK, similarly to your build

Does anyone know if the barrel diameter is consistent on the LMG from the muzzle to the gas block? If I wanted to press the cleaning rod retainer and the front sight block back a few inches, would it be possible with a press?
