Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

Hello!

I am a CNC Programmer out of work due to coronavirus being present inside the machines and all over the floor or something in my shop.

I've modeled and printed a few T81 accessories that seem to work well for some production runs at a local shop.
- MLOK lower handguard
- Ambi selector switch with the same positioning as an AR (vertical position being semi, and horizontal being safe)
- 'Extended' charging handle like that of the Zenit style.

I have a few other things printing at the moment that I'd like to test before announcing.

I read the forums this morning and there seems to be at least mild interest in these things. Anyone think it's worth bringing them to at least small production runs (of 50, or 100 parts), or are we looking at a ban?

Not sure if I'm allowed to 'market' things in this category, this isn't really a personal profit venture as much as it is me trying to make sure that if I put something out for the community, that it isn't at a huge personal cost. Mods move or kill my post if you have to, I'm just trying to help out my fellow T81 guys.

I'd be in for all of that

It seems like there's a few people/companies probing the communities interest in them but not much in the way of commitments yet. The interest is definitely there.

You're probably in the clear if you contact one of the site sponsors to produce your parts. Even if you work with a non-site sponsor to produce the parts on a cost-recovery basis, you are in theory still competing with potential future parts from site sponsors, and it would be verboten to directly reference your parts in your own post, or for someone to post a direct link. A grey area is someone else could mention your vendor's name without linking to them if no forum sponsor has created an equivalent part yet, like Foxstrap with their Type 81 to VZ stock adapters.

Are people allowed to just post 3D printing file links on the site, or would that cause legal issues? Gyroscope could potentially post the plans on here, and site vendors could step in from there to provide production and sales, once the test the designs to make sure they meet their safety requirements.

In for a charge handle for sure. Perhaps a T81 to AK stock adapter plate!? I'd somehow like to get the ZenitCo PT-1 on my T81 and I'm sure many others would prefer AK stocks over the AR buffer tube conversion.

Metal stock adapter plates with different interfaces would be great to have..

I have a local shop lined up to produce the parts and will be sending the files out Monday after I run some testing (on printed parts that is) over the weekend.

But using a site sponsor could be a better option overall as far as things go, I think I'll look in to that.

As for my possible infraction to site rules, my mistake, didn't mean to do such a thing.

A development update: all of my listed parts have been printed and fit nicely, so I'll try to break them this weekend and see how it goes.

You could probably have your local shop make the parts, and have a site sponsor like TNA or Tactical Imports itself handle distribution, and then we could happily link to them on CGN all day long :)

Sounds very cool, would love to see some options come to market.

I'd like to see someone produce a picatinny stock adapter, would allow people to mount a variety of different stocks, folders, etc.

Maybe a Mlok Lower handguard that fits with the factory quad rail upper that TI was selling?

Yeah this really seems like an ideal way to go, very happy with the suggestions!

As a quick development update, an upper handguard is complete as well which I'll test this weekend before moving forward with the shop.

Hope you guys like low mounted picatinny rails for co-witness micro dot mounting.

this ad show how desperate a t81 owner can get, he placed a WTB for the old polytech quad rail handguard for $600, wow!! for a quad rail that doesnt even work. if i have one i would have gladly sell it to him, lol.

Nice! Which specific parts did you add to your Type 81?

Vz58/Cz858 RAS I used to have on one of my 858s. It's been in the parts bin for years, as I had moved to something better on the 858. I'm in the process of fitting it to the T81, in such a way that it doesn't interfere with the charging handle and that the factory upper handguard can still be used. I have no intention of mounting an optic on the forend, so there's no need for the top rail. So far, it looks like it'll work pretty well.
