Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

Mark, your scope may receive some dings from ejection of the brass after firing.

Yeah, I am kind of expecting that - I just mounted it the other day, based on my receipt of the 3-D Productions Side Rail. That's precisely why I went with a cheap $125 "Vision-King" 1-4X LPVO. If it takes a beating from the brass it won't bother me in the least. A cheap Chinese scope for a cheap Chinese rifle kinda made the most sense to me. If the LPVO fiails I will mount a cheap, short-bodied red-dot optic over the Body Cover (well clear of the ejection path) and call it done.....

he was referring the 2rd production run back in 2019 (blonde wood) when rivets were an issue. i havent heard of any rivets issue with this 3rd production run (red wood) except for loosy goosy top HG and poor finishing on wood, lol.

Thats correct I havent personally seen a special edition to judge its fit and finish but the regular blonde folders were terrible. The buldge in the reciever for the trunnion isnt as sharp as it should be so the rivets are sitting on an uneven surface on most.

Keep in mind what price they are selling at TI and what the are selling one month later. At 1,200 they are a bargain in today's market. Yes the earlier productions were nicer but something gotta give.

Does anyone know when 3 Bar D expects more side rails to be in stock? I've sent an email a week ago but no response...

Same I also got no response

Once I get the sigmaco MLAWK rail and 3-Ds side rail I can finally stop spending money on upgrading her

Ended up adding a cheap see through riser to the setup, now both irons and optics can be used. Also modified the rear sight and front sight hood to get an AK-like sight picture, that makes the field of view a lot clearer and uncluttered.

Ran into him at the range the other day and with what he did to the sights and that riser the iron sights work beautifully with the red dot still in place!

Wow! I must have really lucked out with my e-order from TI back while the OR Folders from the 3rd shipment were still in stock. All of my rivets are straight and tight against the Receiver. My Foresight is roughly centered, which gives me hits "center of mass" with the iron sights. All things considered, I am happy with my T81 asde from a rattly (loose) Top Handguard. Everything else is tight and functions exactly as it ought to. Lucky me!!

To stop the rattle on the upper handguard, remove it and very slightly bend the 2 tabs that fit inside the rear sight block outward. This tightens the fit, it won’t take much. Pretty much put some flex in those tabs to the point you’re not even sure if you did anything, and it should fit nice and tight.

So, while everyone is waiting for their SR rifles to show up, I got my sigma/gyro stock adapters. I could finally put to use my parts bin M4 stock and I really like the result. Should it be in a black rifle section now?:p
Manufacturing quality is excellent, also I like how the adapter is secured in the rifle. Installation was straightforward and intuitive. Need the handguard extension to complete the build now.

interesting what do you need more to have to stock set up?

Good, easy fix! Thanks very much for that!

Just for those wondering, the rear sight base seems to work well for mounting a low profile rail and a micro red dot. I machined this little guy and just used the existing pin to lock it in.

It seems very solid, and I can get an alright cheek weld looking down the top of the rail. Just waiting to get a primary arms rs-10 and I'll post a picture down the sights.

2 Type 81sa's and a SKS. Which ones the best? I have my predictions but only more shooting will tell.

What is already certain is that the ergos on the SKS are notably better. And it as pictured is a $1000 cheaper. This verdict of course isnt really fair cus the SKS is highly customized, the stock carved to fit my shooting posture perfectly. But at the same time one can argue having more disposable income to put into modding a rifle because of its substantially lower base price offers advantages like this.

The LMG Tabuk clone and SR honestly feel about the same. The Tabuk naturally is more robust in terms of furniture. The slightly lower stock comb on the Tabuk offers a more comfortable sight picture. The SR setup is good enough but I also feel the sight picture would be better if its stock comb was about 1 cm lower. Havent shot the SR yet and have barely any rounds thru the Tabuk still.

Deer season is approaching, so that should naturally push me out into the woods to finally do some shooting in the coming months.
