Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

At the moment the upper and lower handguards are designed to mate to one another to hold zero, but hypothetically the upper could be used alone with the wooden lower; it just might have the same play as the original wooden one.

Extensions have been considered and I've been messing around with a design relatively similar to the Zenitco you linked. I'm leaning toward selling the handguard on it's own with the ability to attach the extension for users who want it. Pic attached is a concept still, I've printed it and it fit well, but it hasn't been machined and could be pretty different in it's final run. The sling swivel is actually a pain there because I don't want to block it, but that area is important for strength.

I want this so much. This is beautiful!

i would be happy without the extension. maybe do the extension as gen 2s after you see how well gen 1s are received.

Good news, everyone!

The handguards are currently being tested and have succeeded quite well. The dot has held zero over a few hundred rounds now, as well as some intentional drops.

It doesn't heat up badly despite being aluminum, never needed to take my hand off the handguard.

There's other things to cover before release but expect to be able to find one yourself soon.

Pictured as well are my other projects in to this rifle, anyone interested in those?

Very nice. Any idea what the final weight might be?

Volume is something of uncertainty.

What's the consensus on the number of these rifles in Canada? Anyone had any ideas?

Probably around 5000 rifles and LMGs, there should be around 1500 LMGs in the country. By the way the hanguard ferrule on the LMG isn't the same as the one on the rifles. You'd have to redesign the front part of the hanguard that interfaces with that ferrule if you want to sell some for the LMGs. The ferrules aren't drastically different, on the rifle it's more rounded while on the LMG more square. Personally I'd buy one for my LMG.

I would guess 3000~3500 guessing based off the serial numbers and the number of batches imported but not sure about LMG

I agree with this number. And with 2 more batches coming, that number will go up to around 4,500 to 5,000.

A lot less LMG's, that's why I think that LMG's will soon be no less than 2K and going up.

You can already see that the prices for the standard and folder are starting to go up again. I sold a fixed one 2 weeks ago for 1,450 to test the market and it went fast. Of course you always get the low ballers and people claiming they are worth 1K or less but this will never happen.

thats a good number and yup, there was 11 lmg on ee two weeks ago and now there is only 3 after the last dealer sold out.

i wonder if the May 1 extension to Oct next year helped sell rifles in general?

And Currton sold his folder. What I said, prices are up again and it's not even spring yet.

lol. yeah, i couldnt sell it as low as you cos i bought mine off ee and not from TI.

I have more.

Amazing how people have the guts to offer 1K which was the lowest low ball I got. Another one was the notorious 1.2 K guy who always is posting here. I have a feeling that he has to wait for the cow to come home.

Lol, the guy who isn’t going to pay more than $1200. His posts about that are ridiculous, he’s never heard of taxes or shipping costs.

I got a feeling these are going to steadily go up in valve over the years. Won’t be that long until $2k is a good price

I keep hoping to find an LMG somewhere, eventually, in person. Not that I don't trust the sellers on the EE, but I have had Canada Post lose 3 things in the last 2 years, and I really don't want one of them to be a $1600 toy

When are the next batches expected to arrive?
