Hey everybody, does anybody have experience with the older type 81 optic mount quad rail? I am just curious as to how difficult it is to remove this part for cleaning after having shot corrosive ammo. Thank you
i just noticed you put one up for sale on EE "$400 obo Has a few marks from my struggles in getting it off of my own Type 81."
i had no struggle nor difficult. i dumped mine long ago.
Yeah, I didn't install the Quad Rail myself. It came that way from TI. The flathead stock screw was so damn tight it felt like someone used power tools to put it in place. My power drill literally wasn't strong enough to remove it. Nor with hand tools. 1/2 inch impact wrench did the job though.
They are all tight. Even on the stock handguard. I used a hand impact screwdriver and it came off without damage. I often use it, even without a hammer since you have a good weight.
Yeah, the damage resulted from the power drill slipping. I'll need to try the hand impact screwdriver next time I have a difficult screw. That said, it took quite alot to get this screw off, I'm not convinced it would have done the trick.
a few drops of acetone on the gummed up fasteners should help. Also in cases like these, holding the hot pointy end of a soldering iron to the center of the fastener for 30 seconds or so can also help unbind fasteners on many chinese firearms. Avoid breathing any fumes or vapors coming from the screw area though.
