Type 81 Side Mount Options?

Really, I'll have to take a closer look at my type 81and research some options.

Sorry, I misread ur question, yes there has been type81s issued with side mount optics to special forces etc..... But there's virtually no information on them.... as for purpose built type 81 side mount optic hardware, there appears to be nothing on the market. Just about any side mount plate (vz, AK, sks)..could be mounted to the gun if u can find a way to retrofit it. I've noticed SVD style optics will barely clear the dust cover and AK optics most certainly will. So u could go either or I that respect.

Thanks for the info Comrade Vlad. Any scope mount brand or country of manufacture preferred over any other?

Are there any brands/countries products to avoid?

There really only 2 that dominate the market.... Belemo, Which are mostly copys of Russian optic designs, made in the country of Belarus. Their scopes are often known as "POSP's", and generally have a good reputation for quality. The other brand is NPZ, they are one of the original optic manufacturers in Russia. They produce or at least used to produce the optics for the Soviet military. These military optics are sometimes labeled as "PSO's" , and are very hard to find in Canada. However! NPZ currently produces a civilian line up often labeled as "PO's". Not sure how these compare to the original "PSO's", but in my opinion they are of slightly higher quality than the "POSP's".

In Canada, one can purchase optics like these from westrifle.ca, eastwave.com, corwinarms and Kremlinoptics.com to list a few.

There are other reputable brands like Vomz.... but they dont make the side mount styles I believe.

I have zero experience with them unfortunately.... I find them to Western styled.... The way I look at them, why buy a Russian version of a Chevy Camaro, when u can buy an actual Chevy Camaro.

That being said, Corwin Arms sells Vomz optics and they really stand by the products they carry... They offer A+ customer service.

Wouldn't a Choate mount work? Although, really I'm not sure why you would devalue your type 81. Get something thats designed for a scope or just bubba a cheap SKS

For some..... Making a firearm more comfortable and effective to use is considered an " increase in value ". Especially too if u don't have any plans of selling the gun.

It boils down to choice again if you want to bubba the rifle then go for it and watch the haters come out of the woodwork crying and going on about devaluing the rifle.

Absolutely your property do what you wish with it for sure; no ones crying about devaluing any rifle , just pointing out taking a dremel to your rifle and cutting pieces off is not an up grade lol

Just curious, do you plan on taking a dremel to your rifle?

I like the rifle just the way it is, but hey that is just me.
