Saw a post by Tactical Imports in EE stating that the Type 81 SR is being discontinued.

Production line is shut down and there will never be a DMR version of the T81 ever again, full stop

Can anybody confirm that this is true? Is the supply of Type 81 SRs only coming down from here?

Well TI are the guys that talk to the factory, so unless someone else has a line to them.... How do you expect regular gun owners who probably 90% only speak english to talk to a chinese factory.

Reasoning it out, the T81 SR iirc was using up extra T81 LMG barrels on regular T81 receivers. It was also a hastily and kind of badly designed (1 stock screw anyone?) and has literally no military application whatsoever (long barreled 7.62x39 cartridge rifle that has no practical long range ability)

If you wanted to order 10,000 Type 81 SR rifles Norinco would gladly start a production run of anything if you paid them half up front ($3,000,000 guesstimate) but I suspect in the future it would only be Regular Type 81's and potentially LMG's, maybe some SR's if they have extra LMG barrels but practically speaking I wouldn't plan for regular SR production. Even regular type 81 production seems rare, a mid 80's rifle that has no practical modernization that can be easily applied to it. Like why wouldn't you buy a cheap AK which is what nearly every 2 bit military goes for.

The LMG was in high demand when it came out, reaching astronomical prices, then the market was saturated. The same happened to the SR, both SR and LMG were priced too high initially in order to sell a lot, which TI always wanted to do first without retailers involved. Plus the SR suffered from the ban of many semis in general and also the stock issue.

Now the 3rd delivery of the SR will be cancelled and replaced with SE models. After that, who knows.
