Type 81 SR Serious Quality Concern

Nothing of quality. When did Canadians get so desperate about needing to lie to themselves about China ?

I can't really see the China argument since basically everything is made in China, from the biggest crap to the highest technology.

The question with the SR is 'how tight does it have to be". Personally I don't think that much, looking at the flimsy SKS woo stock quality, never saw one break.

If both upper and lower wood to receiver areas had a wood insert with a 3 inch bolt holding it to the receiver, the problem would have been solved. They have a 1/4x20 insert at home depot for 44 cents and a bolt is $1.50, add a metal plate with a hole between the receiver and wood to fill that gap plus a metal plate behind the pin holes inside to hold the lower area and that thing will be sturdy as can be.

Would mortaring the rifle be the most likely thing to break the stock attachment points? If it can't survive this extreme but sometimes necessary function, then that invalidates TI saying the stock attachment is a non-issue.

In order for this to work, you would have to use a bigger drill down to the area where you insert the threaded insert. A smaller insert would probably be better. Have to figure this one out since most are in 1/4x20. 3 inches is probably too long anyways.

strange that a couple of dealers are selling these, usually TI sell to dealers towards the end when they have a handful left. could this fiasco kibosh sales?

TSE.chet dealer now offering but this time cant just buy the npz scope. more dealer coming?

TI is already talking about shipment 2 and 3 for the SR. And "last shipment" for the SE rifles, yes sure. The market is getting swamped with type 81 soon.

Id be worried about compromising the rear trunnion rivets. I believe they pass straight thru there and are pressed on both sides...

yup, i would NOT tamper with the rear trunnion either. they already weaken the receiver by chopping off part of the back.

We explicitly warned about that but then it came up again and oh boy, here it goes, chop chop. How do you mess up your rifle? Get a welder and a torch now.

This is stamped not milled in case you wondered how easy it was.

Well I've got 300rnds thru mine and not a single issue with it so far.
Didn't have a stoppage or any problems. (Yes I know only 300rnds so far)

BUT

Stock is fine, no cracking or wobble or anything wrong with it after shooting the rifle.

It's actually somewhat accurate too at 100y. Barnual was easily giving me 1-3 MOA almost consistently.
Norinco copper washed ammo really sucked at 100y. Would have 1 or go 2 clean shots then flyers all over.

@ 200y on a 12" visi circle target I can easily hit it (groups weren't the greatest but can land all hits on target pretty easily.

@ 300y the 12" gong was very easy to hit. (Once I figured out the reticle after sighting it in at 100y).
This really is a super fun rifle to blast off and ringing gongs @ 300y hit after hit after hit in somewhat of a rapid succession was just too much fun.

Very little recoil so follow up shots are fast, even at 300y and with only the 4x NPZ scope.

10 rnds of Barnual at 100y -

Another 2x 5rnd groupings of Barnual (outlined) while the X hits are Norinco Copper Washed -

And another fresh target @100y (Barnual is middle/Bullseye and Norc is bottom left diamond) -

What's funny is at 50y I thought the Norc was gonna be the winner for ammo as it was such good groupings but then at 100y they opened way up.

Barnual ammo was always somewhat consistent at every distance. Think I found the best ammo for this rifle, I still have yet to try Norc white box and bulk Czech corrosive but prob just stay with Barnual as I've got 1000's of rnds of it.

Here is a pic of the tang of the stock after shooting 300 rnds today -

A couple dings to the bell of the scope but a little velcro strip or NOT extending the sunshade will probably protect it just fine

NPZ scope held zero, never gave me any trouble (Once I figured out how to zero the damn thing LOL) and the glass is crisp and clear. The quality of it really is top notch for a soviet style fixed optic.

I think I'm in love with this cheapish ammo burner and exactly what it does for me from 100y accuracy - 300y gongs is what I've been waiting a long time for

Can you please teach us to zero in the scope?
I tried and did not work out good enough. What I did was removing two screws on the top of each turret and leaving the dial in 0, then turning the top black part to adjust both windage and elevation. Those two screws are now off from the slots on silver parts. I am not really sure that I did it right. By the way, the rifle send the bullets so smooth and quiter then regular t81.
Thanks in advance!!!
