Hello t81 operators, I am about to buy a T81, but a bit concerned about bend issues on folders.

My question is how common is the bend on folders? Is the wood stock version more straight? Thanks.

The issue seems to be more so than not in the folders...
Basically I'd say u have a 50% chance of scoring a bent folder for wat I've whitnessed.
If ur really worried about the bend, I'd get a fixed. However the bend really isn't an issue unless u wanna mount a side mount optic. My bent type 81 functions just like any other... Plus one needs to understand that the bent rifles arnt even defects, even with the bend there still issued to troops it appears.

I bought a fixed because it looks more "traditional" :)

I wouldn't worry about the so called "bent issue" it doesn't seem to really be a problem. It's not like these rifles have stellar accuracy. But they are pretty dependable and fun to shoot.

I own both. Really like them both. As others have said the folding stock is solid. Most bent issues seem to be in the folders.
All that said if I had to choose one I'd go with FIXED.

Personal preference trumps all, fixed works for me because I can store it and transport it in a smaller package and plus I like the looks. But I also get a hard on for folders so that may play into it aswell lmao

I have never liked the look of the fixed stock rifles. They look too much like an elongated AK/SKS hybrid (which yea, I guess it is). The folder has always had more appeal to me. Mine locks up tighter than any folding stock I have ever had on anything and the rifle it's self is flawless (and straight). Mine is a pretty high serial number too which is probably the type left on the market.

I find between the two the fixed stock takes a little more effort to to get low enough to properly align the sights. The plane of the folder sits a little lower, and for me, allows easier and quicker cheek weld for proper sight alignment. With the wood stock I have to get my face into the dip where my nose is essentially touching the receiver to use the sights, I'm not a fan of that. Other than that, both are straight and look equally good.

I got a folder as the PLA used the type 81-1 folding stock as the main service rifle. The fixed stock was only used for Less then a year before they ####canned it for the folder as they were cheaper to make. I’ve refinished mine and have black cheek rests that look awesome as a folder
