Type 81....

Why the huge interest in the Type 81?

Had the opportunity to fire one these at about 200 meters...

have to say, not that impressive. The gun is super hot after few rounds on auto, very rough on the design and pull...

especially if it only comes in as a semi-auto.. what is the difference from an SKS..?

Aren't these made by Norinco? I should hope these cost about the same price as a CZ858 or Norinco CQ. No way should these cost much more than that.

Might depend how long/how much it'll cost to get the production line up and running if the gun is OOP, since they won't be able to recycle surplus PLA receivers. Well... That's assuming they're buying Chinese and not from Bangladesh...

I'd wait until they get an FRT to get excited though.

Detachable mag (hopefully can use the ak mags), and looks like the forbidden/verbotten AK-47. That's enough for most people.

I'm willing to bet a couple drinks that the vz58 is a better platform. That said I encourage as many people to buy one as possible. The more black/red rifles, the better.

Chinese military. Know the right people.

Honestly no different than a sks, besides the auto.

And honestly really poorly made!

Is this basically a pistol gripped, detachable magazine fed sks?

I read a "Guns and Ammo" article and now understand the lineage of this rifle. I did find the following quote by G&A interesting:

"The 81 does not export well since it has no interchangeable parts with the AK and its price of $175 a copy in large military order is almost twice the cost of the Type 56-2 and other stamped-receiver AK copies."

I find the cost mentioned interesting.

You'd probably have to purchase 100 000 or more to get that price and that would be to a government who wouldn't have to pay import or taxes.

Can someone explain to me again the regs concerning barrel length and classification?

Why is the 16" Ruger 10/22 NR, and the 14" Norinco HP-9 (SG) NR, but these rifles must be 18.5" to be NR?

Because barrel length doesn't factor in to non-res/res classification for rimfires or manually operated repeaters/single shots, only overall length.

Barrel length must be over 18.5" for a semi-auto centerfire to be non-restricted.

In it;'s standard configuration it probably brings nothing to the table that the cz/vzs dont.

But that longer barreled version is way cool, and there is nothing else like it on the Canadian market. Do want.
