I jumped on the Tactical Imports Type 81M email and ordered the folder, but now I am second guessing myself. Should I get the fixed stock version?

Help me! I DON'T KNOW!

I have an SKS, so I have a fixed stock 7.62x39 rifle, but you can't really get a good cheek weld on the folding stock. Or so the Internet Nutz say.

Any advice?

stay with the folding stock boss, you can always sigmaco it out and get whatever stock you want. The folders are more likely to retain or appreciate in value as well, as I think they just sold out. If not for anything its the cool factor alone justifies keeping it

Paracord on the folding stock frame is your friend for a reasonably good cheek weld: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cCXq3D-D7w. I also ordered the underfolder. Also have the SKS's for a fixed stock.

Forgotten Weapons has covered a lot of guns with under-folding stocks over the years, and very few of them don't kinda suck from a shootability perspective - poor cheek weld, less stable, some have issues with staying locked in the open position under recoil... But they sure look cool!

So what do you value more on this particular gun? Shootability or cool factor? There is no wrong answer.

Or just buy both. Both is good. lol

You can't really get a good cheek weld on the fixed stock either IMHO.... at least the original Type 81. Not sure if the M is different in that regard.

I like the original type 81 folding stock, I used that underfolder for a while back in Cambodia until Type 81 start to become available, it was like day and night.

On a side note, it was very cool riding my Honda Nighthawk with underfolder sling on your back though.

nope, not easy removing the underfolder plus you will have gapping holes in the sides.

Obviously it is very difficult to change the folding stock for a fixed one, but much harder the other way around. LOP on the side folder is not nice either.

correct... and those who never own a underfolder before and when the cool factor has worn off will end up hating it... be warned.

not for everybody but i love it.

Youd have to practically pay me to take an underfolder lol. I suspect there will be many up for sale on EE and GP by summer when the novelty wears off... just like what happened with the SRs. The fixed however will carry on to be quite coveted like on the older rifles since they will accept adapters and better wood in the near future. And if TI aint BS about the weight, they should be pretty nimble to run and gun with like on the older rifles as well.

Ordered 1 of each, first try with the type 81. Any accessories that are a “must have” to go along with them such as muzzle brake, slant compensator or flash hider?

I'm sure you are correct, but my African genes got the best of me and I had to order the underfolder. Got a fixed too just in case. We'll see which one stays and which one goes once I get them, then I'll get to be accused of scalping when I put one on the EE!

Pretty sure you are wrong.

The side folder has a horrible LOP and still, people love it.

Can confirm! Bad LOP... Still love it!

I know underfolders and side folders very well. Yes, you have to deal with some issues with the underfolder but their value is incredible. Try to buy an underfolder for a real rifle, not airsoft, pricey and very difficult to incorporate. I have an SKS which the previous owner incorporated a CZ side folder. I was told that it will be hard on my shoulder, nothing, nada. I expect the underfolder to be the run of the century, lol.

I hate underfolders on the AK, probably this one is no different . They are extremely uncomfortable and not very solid feeling. Also probably no options for aftermarket stock . maybe ok on a SMG but not a rifle IMO.
