Type 81M... Folder or Fixed

comparing T81 side folder to the underfolder is like night and day, lol. T81 sidefolder is the best sidefolder i ever had, solid and smooth operation.

you can easily stick a rubber pad to the butt but you cant with the underfolder. also the operation of the chinese underfolder not always smooth.

I had an AK under folder and a side folder, if you need to shorten your AK/81, the side folder is a better stock, the AK under folder left a mark. All the guys who shot at the place I worked knew when I'd been to the range with the under folder, it was written on the right side of my face.

Pretty sure you are wrong.

The side folder has a horrible LOP and still, people love it.

Time will tell. The side folder had poor LOP, Im 6ft and wouldnt go as far as to say its LOP is horrible. Outside of that everything else about the side folder was exceptional. Sturdy, easy to use, good looking, and it folded to the right allowing for side mount optic use still. The side folder doesn't have to straddle a banna mag, it provides a decent cheek weld for irons and it doesn't interfere with the shape of the lower handguard on the front.

Based on my experience with an underfolding AKM, the shooting ergonomics leave a lot to be desired. Its compactness was a bonus for carrying in the box under the seat of my snowmobile. It is a compromise. From a shooting standpoint, the fixed stock is superior. If tackiekewlness is paramount the underfolder would be preferred.

lol. i can see used ones selling for $1000 IF .... TI hasnt sold out by mid summer. they will probably do a promo before the next batch arrival.

I'm hoping for a promo price. $1200 is more than I'm willing to spend on a T81, but if they cut the price by 1/3 like they did the other ones not too long ago I might not be able to resist.

Do you think it would be possible to make an adapter similar to the FAB Defense AK folder to buffer tube adapter for the Type 81 M folder, for those who may later have buyers remorse for getting it instead of the fixed stock variant?

They only cut the price when having trouble moving stock. The lmg reached saturation and the SR wasn't popular. That's why their prices were slashed in clearance sales. These seem popular enough I don't foresee them having trouble selling out.

By all means, I don't EXPECT to see them for $800, but one can hope lol

Something could likely be made if the demand is there.

If i ever get one, will be the fixed stock version. For now, i cant buy,had other expense but maybe later in spring i will get one if they are still around. I already have a fixed Type 81 and a LMG so if i miss the 81M,i can live with :D

What hand guard did you go with? Quad or m-lok? Any thoughts on if the TI hand guard is better or u prefer sigmaco ?

My SE fixed is with a quad pic rail handguard now, rock solid and easy to maintain. I tried sigma mloc hanguard+extension before, but I didn't like all those tiny screws that I had to constantly tighten. Quad rail has big M5 screws and you only need to remove 4 of them to clean the gas system and they can be tightened with enough force to stay in place. I don't like TI hand guard aesthetically, so I never tried it.

Yup, thats why I am waiting for them to start poping up on the EE to buy

But, are you sure they won't be at a premium (check quote below)? People are guessing the Underfolder is in tighter supply. This could also be a bit of nudge for sales too. Only T.I knows.

I bought a fixed stock version. Shot a folding stock 858 before and the ergonomics were a pile of sh!t... if you actually want to shoot the rifle, you'll probably have to mod the folder or swap in something else to be comfortable.

Yes we don't want to influence the market, what we will say is if you have the means, buy what you love because one of them will only be available on GP for 3x the price by tomorrow. This shipment took over a year to come in and we don't have any other stock left in China, so might be a while until restock

That said, the only folder I liked was the Skorpion, even being cramped as it had no recoil and was just cool as hell.

If they're sold at a premium I wouldn't buy, even though underfolders are my favourite. Not because I don't want it though, its just low on the ever growing list of wants
