Type 88 Sniper

From the wiki article:
An export version called the KBU-97A is also produced and marketed for security forces of other foreign countries. This derivative utilizes 5.56 × 45 mm NATO ammunition although, instead of STANAG magazines, a modified version of QBU-88 magazine is used to feed the rounds -- though STANAG magazines will work, but are not included as standard with the platform.

Can someone please confirm this? Being able to take 10 round mags would make a huge difference.

You guys think $3000 is bad? Wait till they show up on the EE, LNIB ONLY 3 "safe kisses" Round count roughly 1000 $4200 split shipping

AN adapter in a bull pup style gun is very problematic due to the stock design and mag release design as well. THis may not be possible for bull pups but if it was I would have bought the one on the EE last week. Five round mag in a + 2G gun is not for me.

could we see a side by side comparason of the 88 and a ar or somthing. so we can get a better understanding of how big or small the 88 is? please :)

Sorry, had to post that. Unless there all sold by now and you don’t have any to take pictures of. . . .Do you expect to make this rifle to be an in stock item?

This rifle would have to be of excellent quality to command such a price under the Norinco name. Can anyone speak well on it's behalf?

... I hate getting involved in discussions like this, so I won't reply again in this thread, but I will just address that one point. I think that the Name should have nothing to do with it.

Kel-tec was known for pretty crappy guns, but when the RFB came out, well everyone gobbled it up. (Crappy, based on reviews I read in forums in the states before the RFB came out)

Ford used to be an utter pile of sh!t. Now look at Ford - wonderful cars (have you sat in the brand new Taurus SHO? I had a chance at a local car show...amazing vehicle). Same with Chrysler. I now prefer the new Chrysler's to Toyota etc.

If a company has the opportunity to make a product that is on par with other manufacturers high end products, there is no reason it has to deeply discount it, because of a name.

NOW....on the other hand...for $3K, I would have expected a better scope..I mean 3-9X40? I have a 4-16X56 bushnell on my rifle that didn't cost too much...they could have improved THAT much...

So yes and no. If the product is on par with high end expectations, then the name should have no bearing..... I mean the Norc 1911's are solid guns, as are a lot of their other offering (m14, etc).

The price COULD be a little less for what it is though... but i wouldn't use name as the only point making worth that, or not. That's a very American thing to do (You know... "Them damn Chinese don't make nuttin' as good as us boys over here! WOOT! AMERICA!" )

Also..if the communists do two things right, its instill fear and oppression, and make great weapons! haha (Ak-47 anyone?)

Anyway, that's how I see it. Off to clean my room :p

Except for the off to clean my room comment I could not agree more. Very well put!!!!!! For perspective, I am a die hard chevy guy and have been for over 2 decades. When it came to buying my new truck I went F150 Ford.

Norinco is an export company. They do no manufacturing. Multiple manufacturers in China, this is made by Chinese State Arsenals for the Chinese military. You won't see the Chinese Military using $99 Tokarev knock-offs, the difference in quality between commercial grade and modern military grade is night and day.

In testing we found the Type 88 Sniper to shoot better than the Swiss Arms; which kind of goes against all conventional forms of thinking

On my last business trip to China I went to the Beijing north shooting range. While I was there I was able to shoot a variety of full autos and interesting semis. I put 20 rounds through a type 88 chambered in the current Chinese military round right after 20 rounds through an svd. I found the gun (despite the less than stellar scope) to be of excelent quality. The trigger was nicer than the svd and the build quality was very good. The safety was in a horrible location though. Not a huge deal for target shooting but it might be an issue with varmint hunting. Overall an accurate rifle that handled verywell. If there was an adapter for normal rings or a pic rail I might buy one.
