Type 97 Classification Issues - PART TWO

Any semi-auto can with time be converted into full auto...

especially when someone has 18 months to do nothing else but that.

who wants to have full auto anyway? what is the benefit? even if i had a rifle easily convertible to fa i wouldnt bother doing it cause the waste of ammo. and its useless for hunting, practice or competition.
rcmp has nothing better to do but play with guns? go catch some drug or illegal gun importers. what a waste of taxpayers money especially when everyone is loosing jobs.

A MUZZLE LOADER can be converted to a form of full auto.
Drill holes a set distance along the length of the barrel, build a fuse arrangement to burn back from the muzzle towards the breech, and have charges and bullets stacked upon each other, kind of like a roman candle.
Apparently this was a 14th century idea, and the "modern as tommorow" Metal Storm thing is based on it.

And didnt Browning build one of his first FA out of a lever action?

oh yeah... fair to assume that under a liberal powered gov't everything Semi-Auto would be marked for annihilation.

We'd all be be posting pics of our pumps and levers and how we've modded them to "look" like a semi-auto! :(

Today I received a phone call from Ottawa about my Type-97. They decided to move them all to "prohibs" and consider them full-auto. I was told that sometimes next week I'll receive letter in the mail about revocation of registration certificate and instruction how to dispose (!) it. Can I fight their decision back in court? I paid full price for this gun, I purchased it legally and I totally do not understand why I would have to give it up! :(
I do not know how many T97 owners are in Canada but I can try to ask LeverArms how many they sold. Was there anybody else beside LeverArms and CanAm selling t97 in Canada? We can only find out total amount of t97 in private hands by getting information from importers.

Wow this is so horrible, I wouldn't even know what to do if I was one of the fellows unlucky enough to buy a T97. Although the canoeing accident idea was pretty funny, I wouldn't want my credibility to be under question.

However, what would be the legal ramifications if, lets say, the RCMP showed up with with their usual sh*t eaters grin asking for my firearm I payed good money for, and I point to the fresh concrete pad in my front yard and tell them its 5 feet down mixed with 30 gauge re-bar?

This is a serious question by the way. I'm planning on doing this when the liberals come into power and try to take away most of my guns.

I like the 3' x 3' concrete cube with rebar and chain link solution with an undersized under strenght lifting eye that will pull out if someone tried to use it for lifting :D

oh you could use it to lock the block with a chain or cable, you need to secure that block somehow :D

Looks like the RCMP want to cause a rucus, I suspect that this issue will be paraded out as a "look if we didn't have the long gun registry these assualt rifles would be everywhere" and try to push to review the OICs and add more to the prohib list.

Are you guys that own a 97 on sewer or septic tank?:evil:
I know where I would store my stripped reciever, if I was in the same situation.
And I would be sure to have lots of media coverage. Others have said that we should have the media looking into the confiscation angle, but there is real concern that it would be spun against us. However, with a septic tank twist to the story, they likely would spin it in our favour.

I agree with the fact that the media would spin this against us. Its a scary looking gun :rolleyes: I hate to say it cause it makes no difference. The RCMP have targeted this gun because they can build a case against it and they think they can get away with it. If the media shows a picture of this gun, because of looks alone, most sheeple watching would think the RCMP are doing canada a service. (where as I think they should burn in hell)

My letter... Going out in the mail to both the Constituency AND Hill office's of Harper & Toews, AND via fax using faxzero... Please feel free to use it, modifying it to make it yours.

19th March, 2010

Dear Hon. Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety,
(cc Prime Minister Stephen Harper)

I am writing you to make you aware of the pending confiscation of legally owned private property in Canada. That’s right, law abiding Canadians are going to have their personal property seized by the RCMP, despite having done nothing wrong!

You may be wondering what personal property we are talking about. The property in question is the legally imported, legally registered and legally owned Norinco Type 97 rifle. They are identified by the original FRT 126799 and re-classified FRT 129257-5 in the firearm system.

Initially, the RCMP classified the semi-automatic version of the Type 97 as restricted. Registration certificates were issued and owners took delivery of their rifles. As of March 17th 2010, the RCMP announced that they were re-classifying these firearms as “fully automatic”, because after almost 18 months of experimentation, their lab was able to “easily” convert them to automatic. I must say, considering the significant resources of the RCMP, I believe it to be quite the claim that the rifles are “easily” converted to automatic; after all, it did take them 18 months…

Those who have purchased these rifles and having followed all legal channels, are now being contacted by the RCMP’s Canadian Firearms Centre and told they have 30 days to surrender or deactivate these firearms, without compensation. This is an example of firearm registration leading to confiscation and a violation of civil liberties in Canada. Something that I’m surprised to see happening under a Conservative Government!

You should also be aware that the RCMP has refused repeated requests to release their testing methods. So it remains a mystery as to “how” the RCMP “easily” converted these rifles to automatic. I would hazard a guess that they are refusing to do so “because” the rifle is not “easy” to convert to automatic, considering the length of time it took them.

It is my belief that this issue deserves your full and immediate attention. The Conservative Government of Canada must act immediately to uphold the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which states in Section 8, that “Everyone has the right to be secure against unreasonable search or seizure.”

Respectfully yours,
Jay

Hey there Team,

So I have a simple, if hopefully unnecessary idea: "T-97 Parts Kits".

Essentially the idea is to sell/remove all parts from the gun and only turn in the "true" weapon (ie: receiver) when the police some to seize.

You've sold the rest, your legal property. Have a receipt... I'd buy! The subsequent buyer should also sell... And then again.... And again. Eventually someone has lost the receipt, or didn't require one. There is no legal need... The RCMP "get" alot of work, with no reward. Heck, you can even join one of the planned "concrete parties" and toss your reciever into the block!

Make sure you deposit the exact value of the sale into your bank acount. Presto: They cannot completely screw us. Better than seeing SWAT teams with Type 97s come next month!!!

In solidarity,

CE

My signature might just have to be changed:

First they came for the right to hunt with a pistol, but I did not speak out—because I did not hunt with a pistol;
Then they came with Bill C-17, but I did not speak out — because I trusted in my state;
Then they came for the SPAZ 12, but I did not speak out—because I did not own a SPAZ 12;
Then they came with Bill C-68, but I did not speak out—because I believed registration was not confiscation;
Then they came for the Type-97, but I did not speak out—because I was not in possession of a Type-97;
Then they came for the Semi-Automatics, and I did not speak out—because I felt I was alone;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me." -CivEng

LET US NOT LET THIS COME TO PASS>>>> THIS FAR: NO FURTHER. THIS IS THE LINE IN THE SAND. I WILL NOT ALLOW THEM TO CROSS; I WILL MAKE THIS MY STAND.... Who will STAND with ALL OF US?!?!?!

nice jay .... thanks

Thanks Curtton. I'm not sure the average Canadian knows just how important this is... This is the RCMP stomping all over the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms!

And, for those who might be wondering, NO, I don't own a Type 97. But, I take issues to heart. And, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms IS one of them! This is bigger than the fact they are seizing a rifle!!! What they are doing is seizing legally owned private property!!!

Cheers
Jay
