With the FMU/FTU top rail, I'm hoping to use a Vortex Sparc with the lowest base mount possible. The optic position/height works for me and keeps the sight over barrel height as low as possible...rough eyeball measurement of 4".
Doing this results in regular BUIS being too high...with the sight plane being just about at the top of the optic's shell. I've put on a set of airsoft MP7 sights that I had kicking around and when folded down the 'pistol' sights actually co-witness decently with the the RDS. But airsoft stuff is airsoft and the sights are kind of flimsy...and I don't need them to flip up to their peep/post height.
I would rather avoid increasing the sight over bore height any more with a more conventional setup. I have tried Magpul BUIS and the taller mount for the optic...it works and aligns nicely, albeit higher over bore. I'd prefer keeping the sights on the top of the rail...vs an off to the side sort of arrangement (more so to keep things from protruding off the side of the rifle)
So...aside from hunting down a real set of HK sights...are there any other options I'm missing for rail attached really low profile iron sights?
