I called a trusted and well-known dealer in Montreal to ask about the Type-97; the guy immediately told me that it was junk, had no support whatsoever from norinco for any problems, no availability of spare parts, and was a shoddily made gun that will quickly break and leave you with no way to repair it. Is there any truth to this, T97 owners?

Mine never skips a beat,

Well correction, I do have the occasional stoppage, but I am sure that will work itself out after a few thousand rounds.

Like any rifle, they require some care.

Some mags work better than others,
Some guns require a bit if feed ramp polishing,
Some guns are lemons from the factory.

It is a cheaper rifle, and the only entry-level bull pup.

Also, as you can see in my picture, there is some accessories available, if that is your thing.

Polishing a turd will never make it as good as a Tavor buddy. I feel bad for you.

Exactly, I had a T97 for a week to see what the fuss was about. Kept the Tavor for obvious reasons...lol...

To answer the OP's question, Yes is absolute junk. save your money and go for something else.

Here is a SxS of mine I used to have...

I have and enjoy mine.
Iron sights are fairly accurate, I have managaed under two moa.
It is reliable and simple. Stick to GI aluminum mags and life is grand.
If you like iron sights, it is a good deal.

Can't speak for the flat top version.
Some people have more expensive tastes.
Some have accuracy expectations that exceed their abilities.

Yup, I made a few very good trades, and all in mine cost me $1200 plus the optic of course.

Half the price of a tavor.

Now will I buy a tavor or X95 later? Sure, but for right now it is a fun gun for me to bubba the hell out of.

I even have 3D cad designs to replace the mag release (which is my only complaint with the rifle)

Of course in my opinion, the FS2000 is the best bullpup. Mainly because it makes me grin each and every time I look at it, hold it, and shoot it.

OP,
There is never any shortage of guys lining up to spent your money for you around here...

I know that you did not ask if an $800 T97 is equal to a Tavor at 3 times the price, yet that is the answer too often given.

Short answer: I like mine, it runs fine, but with basic irons it is not super accurate.

See in my experience that gun is the Tavor.

The FS2000 on the other hand was just this abomination that was cool to look at but I had no enjoyment out of shooting, only frustration and hatred. I thought the factory T97's were bad, I was wrong. The FS2000 is the worst black rifle I have owned.

Yours still looks cool though, and as a collectors piece I will have one again someday.
