So I took my type 97 out for the first time yesterday and after about 40 rounds of norinco 223 I noticed that one casing was ripped clear in half about 3/4 the way up from the base .
I had the gun on gas position 1. I shot about 20 more rounds and had this happen 3 more times each time I brake the gun down and check the chamber every time it was clear.
I tried the gun on gas setting 2 and it shot 20 rounds with out issue. The gun was cleaned to the point I can for sure rule out a dirty or greased up chamber. Has anyone had this problem? Doae anyone have an idea where I should start to figure this out?

Thanks.

Sean.

Since position 2 is more gas than 1, are you sure you initially had it set at 1?

If it happens occasionally on 1, it should be more frequent on 2. Not never on 2 and occasionally on 1.

I thought it would be worse on 2 as well but it wasn't and there was a noticeable differance in the force of ejection on 2.
Im heading out now to try it again and see what happens. The fired cases that eject properly show no signs of damage or fatigue.

So I took the type 97 out again and ran 100 rounds through it with no problems other than some slight dents around the same area the casings where ripping. The cases also look like once fired they, all have distinct stress marks at this same point on the case. I will try with different ammo next trip out. So far im blown away by the accuracy of this rifle with cheap ammo cant wait for the ftr to hit the market.

Only prob I had when I took my t97 out yesterday for first time, was FTF with th lar-15 mags because they are loose, but the stock AR MAG worked flawlessly

I had this happen with certain magazines because the bullet is getting pushed back when chambering this = high case pressure.Try just the stock mag and see results.
