Type 97 "see-through" scope mount( NOW DONE! NEW PICS POST 37)

They just went out for anodizing (Type III HCA) this week. Should be done soon! Hopefully just in time for CanAm's Type 97's:dancingbanana::dancingbanana:
I'm also in the process of acquiring dealer status on the board so that I can market them here.

Not to poo poo on good work, but why are the original type 97 scope mounts and scopes not being imported as well?

Would add like $10 bucks to the final cost. :D

There are no "original scope mounts" that I know of. The T97 has a proprietary rail that doesn't mate with any western optic mounts. CanAm is having a rail made, the prototype I saw is not a see through design, but it's a good solid mount and should work really well.

CanAm would have to chime in about importation of the scopes. The one scope I saw was neat but the reticle was very fine, not real good for speed and it obscures the irons. So far my mount is the only one I know of that allows you to use the irons as well as optics.

Actually there is apparently a variety of issued scopes for these rifles, and while not see through they are what mates to the sight rail itself.

Don't pay mind to the haters Clob your mount is lookin good! You've done a very good job so far.

For the record I don't hate what he has built and will probably be in line for one as well in the future.
I was just asking what the deal was regarding the original scopes.

I have seen a few pics of the sight picture in them with their built in rangefinder and really liked them.

I will buy the original scope if I am into "collecting" and experience of the 60's. For all practical purposes, especially for those who are going to use this for hunting or some other stuff....get something else!

How about a "goose neck" for Aimpoint or eotech.

I actually considered this but I think the mating system on the T97 would be too small to hold the weight (see below pic). The AR carry handle is all aluminum and would support a goose neck design way better. The carry handle on the 97 is plastic. I think all the weight out front would eventually lever the mount loose over time. Just my opinion though, who knows it might work.

An aimpoint comp m2 and 4 should work fine with a low mount. Eotech is quite high though.

With the exception of the modern AR, Tavor, and XCR scope height issues seem to exist with a bunch of other popular scoped black and red rifles; VZ 58, SKS, AK's, HK G36, Swiss Arms, the list goes on.

The mounts are done!!!

Finally!
Got them back today! Once again, the mounts are precision CNC machined of 7075 T6 aluminum and and type 3 HCA hard coat anodized to military spec. Made in Canada. See my sig line for a link to the EE.

Please note the wording on the mount (Laser engraved) is actually covered by the hand guard when installed.
