Has anyone played with one of these yet, I ordered one & I'm not sure what to expect of this particular firearm, What kind of scope would be best for this application, they said they are including a rail mount.

I ordered one too but haven't received instructions for the deposit yet... I'm also curious as to what to expect from them...

For under $900 I'll be happy if it goes bang when it should and is compact. That's all I need.

I planning to pick one up as my new truck gun.

Truck gun, like your gonna mount it on a Turret!!!! haaaa Just kidding but that would look funny NO!!!! Yah I cant wait for mine either, I cant wait for my SKS's either, but that's a different Thread!!!!!!!

The mag release button is not well thought out, it is more like an afterthought.
No matter though, I'm in for one of the shipment that CanadaAmmo is bringing in soon.

I decided against the 97 cause it puts dents in the brass casing when it ejects it. Bad for reloading (or is it? someone set me straight)

A dent in the side of the case is no big deal.
More important is how the rim looks afterwards. If it deforms the rim where the claw extractor grabs it matters.
Even though I had a chance to play with one, I forgot to notice the rim.
Anyone here able to comment?

From reading the other threads I'd say the consensus is: good gun, bad ergonomics.

No quite. Please read my thread and review on my 97 shorty - also expect this thread to be moved to the red rifle section.

The 97 does not have bad ergonomics. It shoulders and points very well. It's controls are not located as conveniently as the AR but some of us are working on that;).

Also, those that are buying a 97 for strictly a truck gun are going to be pleasantly surprised.....this rifle is not your typical "run of the mill" Norinco. Fit and finish are much better. Once the scope rail and mag release issues are worked out I quite frankly would prefer the rifle to the AR, a piston driven one or not.

Yes, I've owned both.

I tested my 97 vs. my M4 configured Ar15. The 97 is a cool rifle but not as good IMHO as an AR. If you use the search facility you should be able to find this review.

As for optics you need the rail that Clobb is working on. The factory scope is cute but has a tiny field of view and the reticle is too fine to acquire easily.

Are the LAR-15 ten round magazines compatible with the Type-97's we have on order? I just can't imagine only having 5 shots. LOL
