What types of coatings do cgn'ers/m14 owners recommend when it comes to coating/refinishing your rifles? I live in kamloops and there's a gunsmith in town that does something called gun kote... im wondering if its just a cerakote or parkerizing or what have you. Im totally unfamiliar with this field, and could use some advice what to do to pimp out my m14 shorty that i just ordered! also this guy does teflon coating on actions too, anyone ever heard of that?

I live in Vancouver. I sent mine to Armacoat in Edmonton- they are highly rated on CGN..... Their black Nitro process cost me $225. The rifle was fully disassembled. It looks excellent.

Cerakote is apparently very good. One very highly regarded US company says it’s better than Gun Kote and Duracote. I can’t speak for Arma-Coat, but I’m sure it’s good.

Send you rifle to "murdoc"(on CGN here) as his ArmaCoat company in Edmonton is the shizznat!

I don't have expertise with coatings and finishings but
Even if the modern coatings, paintings are durable, I have a hard time to imaging one gun painted.

I mean a shiny stainless rifle maybe.
A camo job on a modern military rifle OK.
Otherwise no!
A painted SKS -->NO
A painted M14 -->NO
A painted Sig 550 -->NO NO NO NO NO.

I love grey or black or green parkerising & even more a deep blue.

I was about to forget, it's my 2 cent.

$225 plus shipping from Vancouver. Send it the slow way- doesn't cost much. Contact Murdoc at Armacoat- there's pics on his website. He does magazines too. I did mine in black. Turnaround was one week. A nice guy to deal with I will add.

So did you sand it all down with emery cloth first and do all the prep work??

Most places will want to do the Prep work so they know it is done properly.......otherwise they will not warranty their refinishing if it starts to flake/chip off.........

I have used Gun-Kote and it is very good. I currently have some Cera-Kote to play around with and will see what it is like.......supposed to be the hardest/toughest firearms coating on the market.......

Wrap that s**t in camo tape and put a molon labe sticker on the mag bro[/QUO

Done! ya ill probably do armacoat then cause i've heard quite a bit about it. you say 229 all in shippin there and back? so much stuff i want to buy for this thing and i dont even have it yet.

I've dealt with Barret at Armacoat, he's one of the better guys I've given money to (not that I give money to dudes a lot, well I guess u can't help it but u know).

I bought my Ruger Scout from him and he didn't charge me HST even though I'm in BC trololol that alone saved me like $60.00
