Typical Meals at hunting camp

We eat pretty well at camp

breakfast - Cereal, toast, bagels, muffins, coffee, juice etc

lunch - Sandwiches and fresh soup made from last nights leftovers

Dinner - Sunday before opener - Full Turkey Dinner. Then ham and scallops, roast beef, lasagna, etc etc usually friday night is a "wild game night"

We used to eat like Kings, but my hunting/fishing buddy is so health conscious now and High Fiber rules. Low sodium, Low Fat, No Taste. No clean up. He even tries to makes me feel guilty about the way I like to eat. Ah, the good old day's. Funny thing is, he figures that by eating so healthy, he can eat twice as much

Duck camp we eat like kings, steaks, roasts, hams, scalloped potatoes, chowders, home made pies and bread, and of course smoked meats and thats just supper and snacks. Breakfast is a simply thing: coffee, tea, toast and cereal. Plenty of snacks are packed for the blind, varies by the individual. The older fellows tend to return to camp around midday to nap and have brunch.

Breakfast - Bacon, Eggs, and Toast
Lunch - Sandwiches, Fruit
Supper - Meat and Taters with plenty of Spiced Rum or Gibson's

Note: We always forget some menu item 2 years ago it was eggs, so we had grouse and bacon for breakfast. Was yummy but got old fast.

Holy crap Ike! Reading your breakfast and lunch menu had me picturing you wearing the Birkenstocks. You have fully redeemed yourself with your dinner choices.

I got more miles on me if I eat light. Must be getting old.

Although whilst on vacation....

I camp out of the back of my truck and live out of one cooler and a box of dry food.

My wife sometimes makes me a big loaf of polenta to bring along and that is quickly fried in slices with eggs and bacon for breakfast.

Dried sausages, home made bread or hard tack for lunch with dried fruit and nuts for lunches, an apple if I've brought some.

Dinner can be rice, noodles, more polenta or even potatoes if I've got time, with store bought torunska or smokies, home canned bear or elk or salmon with onions and red pepper for a meat dish.

Backpack hunts call for lighter all dry foods. Lots of granola.

Our moose party doesn't mess around when it comes to food. We use an old Bombardier Muskeg Carrier with tank treads and a box on the back to go in. Breakfasts are eggs, bacon and toast, usually one morning will be eggs Benedict. Lunches are packed and carried individually. Dinner is steaks, spaghetti, sausages, chops. Salad and wine with all dinners.

We eat well. Each guy brings a one meal for supper, e have steaks one night, and someone always brings something new. Chili night is brutal !!!

Whiskey, wine and other spirits enjoyed in moderation ;).

Camp cooking

i dont know where you guys are finding the time to eat so well at camp...im starting to think i need to bring a non hunting cook for elk camp

we are in the woods before sun up and back to camp for an hour or two mid day for a snack...then back out into the thick stuff till after sun down.

So its usually quick n easy food for a week....chili, stew, hoagies etc. :stirthepot2:

Once the meat pole has a sag in it though...then its all tenderloin and wisers :D

What we have done in the past is, say there are 3 or 4 of you and you are out for a week. Before you leave each person has to cook two full supper meals that will feed everyone. We freeze them solid and put them in a cooler for the trip. Each day we take out one to thaw out so when we get back after the evening hunt supper only needs heating up or minimal time to get ready.
Early breakky is usually instant poridge, toast and coffee, after the morning hunt when we come back we have bacon and eggs etc. Lunch is what ever soup and sandwiches or left overs from the night before.
It is nice to have supper somewhat ready when you get back in the evening.
Cheers Roscoe

The one time we used a camp we took the Sunday before to cook up 4 or 5 BIG supper dishes then freeze them. BBQ pulled pork or deer or beef, a caserole, something like that. We pull one out each morning and first guy back tosses it on the bbq to heat up.

Breakfast is usually toast and hi-octane coffee with some fruit. Maybe some cheese, crackers, pickles and peperoni.

Lunch is left overs from the night before, that's why we make a BIG supper and freeze it. Toss in a sandwhich or two and it's back in the bush.

I did chili the first night we're there and then we nibblde on that for a day or two as well. BBQ chicken wings are pretty easy too... sausages and hot dogs too.

The luxuries of having camp close to home. My grandma and one of the hunters wives come to camp during the day and get things going. One of my cousins is a terrific cook, he returns form the hunts and finishes up the main courses. He also gets the soup ready the night before for tomorrows lunch. My great-aunt makes fresh pies every day for desert.

We eat like kings also. One of our hunting buddies at the moose camp is only there to rest and he loves to cook.....at camp we call him Mom. Mornings are for lots-o-bacon with eggs, toast, roasted potatos, baked beans, pancakes........
lunch is usually packed for the day, cold cuts, fruit, veggies
Supper is steaks, pork chops, ....one night has to be sloppy joes....fresh grouse pan fried with oignons and taters. Coffee morning noon and night.

Deer season is different as I hunt less than an hour from home. Breakfast at home, pack a lunch, a personal tradition for me is to make banik bread the evening before opening and nibble on it in my stand. Supper at home with the family before hitting the hay early......

Awesome!

Being as the deer camp has a pretty much fully equipped kitchen, we have a wide variety of meals. Pretty much everything mentioned so far has at one time or another been served.
Also such things as Lasagna, Pizza, Ice cream and of course beer, gotta have beer.
We've enjoyed Grouse, Rabbit, Roast beef from the slow cooker, Turkey dinner, both oven, and deep fried.
We eat rather well.

Our camp is just about the same as the rest of you. Damm you guys I am getting hungry for it right now. We won't be going till Oct .
