Howdy folks. Did the yanks ever make the Enfields, especially the No 4 Mk I. How much would one be worth today, in very good condition. Apparently it was made by Savage. Thanks.:cheers:
 
Savage made just over a million No. 4 rifles between mid -1941 and the summer of 1944 under the Lend-Lease arrangement. More No. 4s than were made at Long Branch.
Value is dependent on condition, and more or less the same as most other No. 4 rifles.
 
Savage produced more than 1.2 million No4 and No4 Mk1* rifles for the British during the period 1941-1944. As for any MILSURP, value depends on condition, originality of components and finish, matching bolt and rifle s/ns, all Savage parts, and demand. The Savage rifles are very well made.

All things being equal, Cdn No4 buyers will pay more for the home produced Longbranch rifles than the Savage or Brit made rifles. Sound Longbranches with matching bolt/receiver s/ns, original finish and LB parts in VG condition with sound bores seem to be selling for $500-$600 nowadays. A Savage in like shape would fetch maybe $100 less. Assessing condition is quite subjective, so photos would be helpful.
 
US Property. I wonder if Uncle Sam would claim your Savage LE back one day.
 
I have a .303 marked U.S. Property on the receiver with Surrey being stamped on the barrel ....I bought the rifle back in 1969 when I was 16 years old for $19.00......I just wanted a reliable moose rifle back then and I still have it.....any thoughts about its origin etc ?
 
Important to make the distinction between the No 4 Mk 1 and No 4 Mk 1*. Lots more of the latter (later) around than the former. Like the Long Branches, early no-star rifles command a premium.
 
The owner sold the rifle before I got to see it, apparently it went for 375.00. This one was also marked US Property, and built by Savage, with all matching numbers. Did I miss a gem?

Savage built rifle, later sporterized professionally.
 
American factories under contract to the U.K. also built the Enfield P-14 in .303British and then for their own army they did the .30-06 version US Rifle M1917 during WWI.
