The advantage of course of the receiver mounted trigger is, they weren't affected by the trigger guards getting knocked and bent and the wood getting crushed and squeezed, which eventually happened. That would change the trigger pull weight.

But receiver mounted meant, the trigger wouldn't change in spite of changes to the wood and trigger guard.
 
Yes the MK1/3 has had the trigger moved to the receiver, Looks like a u channel has be brazed on the receiver, for the trigger to be mounted on.
 
and I have in my pile of future restorations a savage No4Mk1/2... Not many Mk1 Savages I think they got to the 5C range before switching to Mk1* production.

I also have savage Mk1/3 that was later converted to a DCRA 7.62.
