U.S G.I Stock colours?

The paint I used above was a spray on granite texture for exterior use which I found in the US. I've seen it in Home Depot but only the indoor stuff. This was 2 years ago and I can't recall the name and the can is long gone. Maybe they have it up here now or someone on the board knows it.
Searched tonight and it is Krylon, "Call It Stone" 18000 series paint for exterior use.
Yeah Home Depot did a commercial on this stuff. Usually used for cement exterior walks and such. Apparently a good weather sealant. Could be interested to know how it feels on a stock.

It felt good in my hands and then I sold it to mdbuckle on this board. He also said it felt good but stripped it and put on his own paint job. I like it and will use it again. Maybe next time I'll try the dark granite w/black highlights.

I have allways admired the camo job on this gun:

It is a Springfield gun - not 100% sure but I think it is a Mcmillian stock on there.
Thats nice, I've always liked this one
If I could figure out how, I'd copy it

Dark granite with highlights? Trying to picture what you mean...

Yeah I pretty interested in this to add some texture in the grip areas. Alternatively I suppose I could go with the truck bed liner stuff that people have been buying in cans. The bed liner stuff people are buying is rubbery bedliner is it not? I think I'd prefer a harder feel of a granite texture sort of stippling.

there are a few textured paints on the market now.i've been using a rustoleum fine textured paint with good results.one stock in green and one in black.

i found that 3 coats of paint followed by 3 to 4 coats matte clear worked well.the clear coat build up took away from the texture i wanted so i finished up with a coat of paint on top of the clear. now if i do chip the the finish i still have the colour underneath.

Turf,

I caught a pic of one of your M14 stocks, a project from awhile back with the verticle grip on a picatinny rail and you seemed to have used a stone texture paint. I happened to have checked out some spray textures by Krylon. Is this what(or similar) you used?

You had mentioned some other texture paint from Home depot before.

Anyone use the texture paints and/or bed liner only in grip areas? Does it ruin the flow?

Winz, I'm pretty sure it was the Krylon granite textured paint that I used. I got it in the States because the Canuck stores didn't have it yet except for the indoor stuff.

I had 2 bad experiences with Crappy Tire truck bed liner rattle cans. Never again. Brownells offers some really good textured paint called Spray Grit. Check it out on their website. Want some, let me know and I'll put it on my next order.
