U.S. purchases

I know you cant buy firearms in the United States without lots of headaches and knee deep in paper,But can you purchase accessories .. IE rifle stocks, handguards,grips,that kind of stuff? ..when spending a day in the states shopping?

There is a section in Legalese about this - but I believe firearm "parts" may also be a problem. I had this discussion with my instructor from my safety course - and he said you get into grey areas with grips/mags/etc. because they are "parts". There have been several threads about shopping in the US in the Legalese section - have a look at those and see what people say.
