U.S. SURVIVAL AR-7 Henry Rifles

I always thought these rimfires would make a good light survival gun. Dose anyone have (or had) one and care to comment on it? I'm mostly interested in accuracy, reliability and overall experience.
Now before everyone else chimes in about survival bear/zombie/alien defense, I'm just looking at it as a light, cheap rifle for bagging a small meal. Not looking for a discussion about how effective a 22LR is or isnt. Oh, and if there is already a thread on this, forgive me! Thanks!
 
My girl got me one for Christmas and I have nothing but good things to say I was shooting in minus 40 at 100 yards at clay pigeons and I was 1 for 1 only issue I have is it seems to be picky about ammo sub sonics are out of the question but other wise it's a fantastic buy
 
Don't know myself if this has been discussed or not, but it can't be as overworked as the "270 vs 30-06" so what the hell!
I've owned an AR7 and had occasion to use others. I've found them to be great little truck or backpack guns. Sights are a bit primitive, and it has been my experience that you absolutely have to keep the action well oiled if you want them to run right. Not exactly a tack-driver but mine could hit minute of grousehead whenever I did my part.
AND of course you could slide it under the truck seat and almost forget it was there.
No complaints.
 
I've thought of buying one of these, but with my 10/22, my son's Cooey, my daughter's Savage Rascal, and my intent to buy a Mossie 715, I'm having a hard time justifying another 22. That Rascal is practically a takedown rifle as-is anyway. Plus I kind of got teased with a Marlin Papoose after watching Nut-n-Fancy's video review.

While I was more seriously considering the AR-7, I did come across repeated opinions that the Henrys are better built than the earlier ones. The same opinions are out there for you to discover as you look into this rifle, so don't take my opinion as based on anything other than internet research. Certainly haven't compared the two in person.
 
I had the Charter Arms version. I was very happy with it. The sight are not great but good enough to get small game in a pinch. I really liked the fact that you could pack it up in the stock with a light coat of oil and leave it without worrying about rust. I use to but electrical tape around the butt as extra insurance. My only complaint was that there was only room for one magazine in the butt. I haven't looked at the Henry's, but I understand they hold three magazines and that the butt is made of more durable material. Reliability, I never had any problems and I used whatever ammo I had on hand.

First gun I ever sold. Took a loss, and was glad to be rid of it. Kept it less than the time I spent making payments on it on layaway.

Awkward bulky stock, mine had a rough barrel, to judge from the speed it would fill itself with scabs of lead, and the mag would drop, at the least brush of the release, and hang in the mag well, so that it could fall out the rest of the way later.

Put a wire stock on it and save the space, or buy a Papoose, and save the aggravation, if you really want a semi auto backpacking gun.
