I'm in the process of upgrading my PAL to a restricted and I've been thinking about what to buy. I've always had a thing for cowboy guns which goes along with my love of westerns, so I've been toying with something along the lines of the man with no name's gun, ie. 1851 navy conversion (along with a semi-auto in .22 lr to learn on, of course). Cimarron has that replica of the one from the movie, but doesn't have an ejector that I can see, making it a pain to reload. Plus, I have no idea who in Canada imports Cimarron. The closest thing I could find was the Uberti conversion. Does anyone have one? How does it shoot?

If you are buying a first hand gun, I would personally recommend against an opentop conversion.

A solid frame .357 will be much more durable.

The modern open-top colts are more than adequate to stand up to the "rigors" of a .38 spl. The problem you're going to find with that particular "Man With No Name" model is finding one. Not only are there next to no Cimarrons in Canada (although some people are saying that one or two small shops are dealing them now) but Cimarron themselves are sold out of the MWNN conversion. I have a local dealer trying to get one for me, and I was told maybe early in the new year would be the soonest. As in 2009 new year.

I did see some regular Richards Mason conversions on Epps, though.
