I bought a Uberti 1875 Army and being my first single action revolver, I'm really new to them. The manual that came with it is from a Colt 1873 model and they seem to function pretty much the same.

Now do I have to take it apart completely to get the oil and what not off? Also what should I use as a lubricant?

One more question is I removed the cylinder and when i tried to put it back together the cylinder wasn't aligning properly to put the long pin back in. Was I doing something wrong?

Thanks

I don't have that model, but I can give you some general tips

Wipe it down and swab out the barrel and chambers - you don't need to disassemble the whole thing.

I usually grease the indexing slots on the back of the cylinder, but that's just me. Oil or light grease on the base pin (the one running through the cylinder)

Assuming you still have the gun at half #### when putting the cylinder back in, you may find that you have to fuss and wiggle it gently as you insert the base pin. It's not going to drop into the frame into perfect alignment more than once a year ;)

Just don't force anything. If you have to hit it, you're doing it wrong.

There are two 1875's, the Remington pattern gun and the S&W break top. I'm sort of guessing that you have the Remington pattern?

There's nothing all that wrong with the stock factory oil. I'd just give it a good rub down and pass a dry patch through the bore and chambers and go shoot it for the first time.

After that if you're shooting smokeless powder loads then just use whatever you use on your other handguns for cleaning and lubrication.

The parts in the Remington pattern guns perform the same functions as the Colt parts but they are quite a bit different in shape and how they attach. You plain ol' got the wrong manual. You should look into finding or maybe downloading the proper manual since a few small things in the actions are different.

If you got yourself a top break S&W then you REALLY need a proper manual.

And yeah, if it's a Remington just keep in mind that when Clint slipped that one cylinder out and the other in so masterfully in the movie that it likely required a couple of dozen takes. OR the gun was set up without a hand or cylinder bolt just for that scene. In real life you gotta hold the cylinder just so and turn it slightly to nudge the hand out of the way and hold your tongue between your lips "ju lie shthsh" for the cylinder to slip in and the base pin to glide into lock without a bit of fiddling. Take heart though. With many hours of practice it gets easiler.... :d

Yes I got the Remington pattern, I thought the S&W ones are called Model 3. I would like to add one later on thougt.

I looked on the Uberti website and they have nothing on the 1875 Rem manual.

Thanks for the help I'll try it out with my tongue sticking out :p

Here's a picture:

That looks like the 1890 Remington or the police model, I was thinking you had the 1875 Remington outlaw, it looks like the 1858 percussion model but uses cartridges. Too bad I was going to ask you where you got it, I was thinking of getting and outlaw!
Google uberti 1890 police!

Well Uberti calls it Army Outlaw or thats what on the box I got and there website. One thing i find odd is that mine is in 38spc/357 mag but its not even listed on there website but I look on Taylors & comp they have it there. The Sku # is 0150 7.5" barrel. I know there's the Frontier model, same thing as mine but with a 5.5" barrel.

I got it from Wolverine Supplies when they had there sale on.

Sorry, 60 year old eyes, well that is definitely an outlaw and real nice case hardening, I want one! Wolverine will send you a copy of the correct manual, I am sure! Congrats! Did you want .357?

Thank you! My eyes are probably just as bad haha

I've yet to contact Wolverine on the manual in due time but I just want to go to the range to try her out!

Well I finally got a chance to shoot it today and WOW its was fun! I tried some .357 mag and .38 spc and you definitely feel a difference between both.

Here a short video with a bit of slow motion. I apologize for the ####ty quality it was my first time doing slowmotion and it was really cold...

Thanks for looking!

I really like the look of the outlaw, nice video, how was it accuracy wise?

Thank you!

It shot high, I was about 15 feet from the target. Someone has left a human silhouette target and I was aiming at the torso and shot the neck. But it grouped really well!

Now I need to get used to the "sights" as I m used to night sights on my P226, CZ and 1911.

More practice is needed :)

I have some antique smiths and from what I experience and what I read it is normal for them to shoot high, most people seem to run the front sight at the six o'clock position. Does it get a different poi with the different ammo?

Does it get a different poi with the different ammo?

I had some AE .38 spc FMJ 130 gr and AE .357 mag JSP 158gr.

The .357 did shoot higher then the .38 by a bit but not much. I didnt really get into shooting alot only bc it was freaking cold and fingers weren't cooperating with me after 42 rds. haha

Right on, well maybe on the next sale I will bite and get myself one, I have been looking often for an original one in the U.S. I wanted one in bad shape to rebuild completely but cannot find one yet, there are a few in pretty good condition but they want a bunch of cash for them!
