So can anyone who has owned guns from either of these gun maker's give me an idea of the good the bad and the ugly.(that was a lame joke I know) Just for plinking mainly I had a rather large reversal of fortunes recently and mostly I'm just looking for plinkers in the restricted class of firearms no ISPC or anything just a little fun shooting that will not break the bank.

Uberti Cattleman - 1873 S.A.A. -New Model Frame - Steel Backstrap & Triggerguard .357 magnum
And of course the .22 Lr .22 Magnum.
Main worries is that I'm not buying a complete piece of crap.

Hi CompBoy I have a Hearitage Rough Rider,it is 22lr and 22 mag. It is nickel with birds head grip. The finish is poor. Bought from a dealer, but did not see it. When it broke nobody had parts, they had to come from the U.S. Numrich. Trigger is not good, but the gun is not all that expensive. The new ones might have a better finish now. I would rather buy a Ruger single six. I also have two Ubertis in center fire and two Piettas. The finish is excellent and holding up. some used for cowboy action and the 45 for plinking. The one Uberti had problems since new, dealer could not fix it. So i sent it to R.K. Gunsmith and now perfect. He also polished the trigger and that improved my accuracy, but the triggers are good out of the box. I dont think they are made to shoot hot loads either. Hope this might help AGE

Thanks I'm far from purchasing these guns just needed to see how they had treated others before since they are my first pistols I may save for a little while longer if the thread generates alot of repets from what you ran into. I really don't want the headaches of sending it off. I still need to go out and test the hand fit and such. I grew up on hte john wayne movies from my dad his westrens not the war movies. I really like the single action but the Ruger's Look a little to polished for me :D I like em to look a little more ummmm used I guess. I like the New Vaquero and the ruger six jus seem kinda polished. But then I can't really afford to be that picky

edit:
Just had a look at the two the only issue I see is the expense of the guns the GP100 is cheaper then the New Vaquero by about $50 or so.

The Uberti makes a millanium or hombre model it is a mat finish. That is one of the less expensive guns and not so shiny. Uberti prices have gone way up. Gobles in London has two in stock. If i remember the price was good. He has a single six in stainless 22lr and 22mag used. They are having a sale on. But do check your prices before you buy. AGE

I'm some what concerned with the accuracy issue as this is my first handgun. Kind of wondering it it will be hard to use it as a learning gun if it is inaccurate. Kinda hard to develop good skills if the gun is working against you.

I think ever guns price has gone way up. When a started looking last year in the fall it seemed that buying a gun wasn't too bad but man have they gone in the last few months. Slowed me done a lot on even looking.

Love to come I'll check but generally the wife works on the weekend. so between day care, a mother in law needing 24/7 care and taking the wife to and from work. I don't know if a 2 hour trip is in the works.
Although maybe we can go camping in the area on that weekend if the wife was more into shooting I'd say I'd take her too but she was looking for a few overnight trips for camping and the teenager and suck it up for one weekend and get off the computer and spend time with her grandmother.
