I bought my first single action revolver...a Uberti Callahan 44 Magnum ....and have a question about which ammo I can safely shoot with it ?

This is just for occasional plinking and don't plan to reload..so is it safe to assume that I can shoot any factory 44 ammo with it? I was planning on shoointing Remington UMC 180gr...which is clocked at 1600 fps.

Does anyone know if this is too much for this gun ? I know Rugers will take anything you can throw at them...but have not been able to find much info online about this gun.

Any experience/advice appreciated w.r.t. 44 ammo

Anything off the shelf from the major makers will be fine. Some of the high power boutique ammo could be a different story. But if you stick with the regular makers you'll be fine.

Either you're fairly well off or you don't plan on shooting it much if you will only buy factory ammo. Last time I checked .44Mag ended up at pretty much a buck a pop after taxes. I reload .44Mag for around 18 to 20 cents a shot. Less if I'm not using powders which tend to fill the case. With a bit of shopping around you can get set up for reloading them for about $150 to $200. I'll leave it for you to do the math on the break even point.

Thanks guys...Yeah I guess I will see how much I end up shooting .44Mag and if it becomes more than occasional I will likely look into reloading. Le Baron seems to carry the Remington JSP 180gr for about 65 cents per round...the cheapest price I have seen for factory .44 ....although expensive to shoot it in volume.
