Big box in the mail today YAY.

I recieved my sharps today. Overall it looks great.
Only one small problem is the LR sight when mounted and positioned upright the detent is in the wrong spot, cant even see the sight at the end of the barrel. I ended up taking it a-part and modifying the detent spring so it sits 90 deg. to the barrel. Much better.

I also noticed something about 3/4 way down the barrel (inside). At first I thought it was an odd tooling mark. I ran a bore brush with some lead remover down tha barrel and some bore paste. Looks great now. Must have been some lead from laping????

I will get some picks up tonight.

Still need some BP Cant make any smoke yet :(

The case colors are really nice.
I toured the Shiloh Sharps Rifle Co. plant in Big Timber Montana several years ago. I asked about how they do their case colors. The tour guide/shop foreman said he could show us but then he would have to kill us. It is a closely guarded secret to them.
The main office had a photo of Tom Selleck hoisting one of the guns used in Quigley.

You better get out and start shooting that critter...I can hear it crying for range time.

It may sound odd, but the lube we have used for nearly 40 years of shooting BP cartridge rifles is "Galena" made by Esso.
It is Hot Box Gear lubricant that comes in sticks about 1.25"X0.75"X 10".
I don't know if it is still available though.
BTW, if you decide on using Fg powder, plan on using a drop tube, at least 36" long. Get the 45 caliber "Wonder Wads" from Buffalo Arms as well...they have a website, check "wads".

I bet the tour was interesting.
Im going to try a bees wax, crisco, canola, lanolin mix tonight.
I am using Goex2F some with a grease cookie between cereal box cards, some not. This black powder is all new to me.

Stephen if you are shooting grease grooves you don't really need the grease cookie, it won't hurt anything but is more for Paper Patch bullets.
You are on the right track there for lube.
Try those paper milk cartons for patches also as they are waxed and won't absorb the lube out of your cookies.

Thanks Ken I have not been puting any cookie in this batch.

I made up some lube 50% bees wax 40% noname lard,10% canola oil, and added 4% lanolin. The lube looked god but after going through the sizer its not sticking very good. Is that normal for BP lube? I also bought some Safari muzzle loading lube for kicks. It looks quite thin as well. I am used to using felix lube off castboolits it sticks like poop to a babys blanket. Can a person find BP lube in Alberta?

It should stick well! I use the same but with out the oil and more crisco!

You know what else works,, lol is just a simple toilet bowl wax ring!

Read that some plase never tried it as I have 20 Lbs of lube left.

I never size my bullets, just lube by hand..
 
lube recipe

I use 3 parts Bees wax 2 parts olive oil &2 table spoons of vaselion works great. I get a nice lube star. I also use a lube wad 1/8 thick.

yep soften her up, I use just bees wax and crisco, 2 parts crisco to bees wax, and if it need to be shave some paro wax in it but for BP soft is better.

Lube is not rockett science, and I have seen anything from greese to deer fat go into it and work...
