I just acquired one. It is like new. I decided to disassemble it to give it a good cleaning but can't get the barrel key to come out. It has a small catch on the right side of the key, to keep it from falling out I guess, and there is a screw on the left side which appears to hold the key in as well. I can't get the key to budge. Is the screw supposed to be removed first? HELPPPPPP........Dave

If the gun is a copy of one of the colt percussion guns, the screw on the left side keeps the key from falling out from the frame. The head of the screw protrudes into a groove milled down the center of the key

You should be able to pull the wedge out as far as the screw and then pull the barrel assembly off.
If that doesn't work, back the screw out until the barrel moves.
Originally the screw did two things, it kept you from loosing the wedge,
and limited the depth of the wedge to keep the barrel from binding when pushed in too far. KD

I have the exact same pistol, you just pull on it.
Let me know how yours shoots, mine shoots 5-6 inches high at 25 yards.

The wedge on my 1851 copy was a ##### to get out the first time. A small brass hammer, a drop or two of penetrating oil and some patience got it out.
FYI, you drive it out from the right side of the gun to the left.
