What are your guys thoughts on Uberti revolvers? I am looking at getting a Single Action Cattleman.....in .357/.38. I like that its single action, their old school looks and the prices are not to bad. Thoughts?

I just got one and love it , I have nothing wrong to say about it , beside the varnish on the grip that dosent look too old school. I plan to remove it and just oil treat the wood

Having it in .357 mag is also a plus for me as i have 686 only need to reload one caliber altough so far I only used .38spl in it.

I only tried LHPWC only the lightest load possible and was getting 2 to 6 inch at 15 yards,
one hand duelist style. This is not really representative of the gun capabilty It. It's not a S&W 686. Sights are a bit tricky also
 
I have Ubertis and Piettas in 357 and 45 colt. Shoot 38 in cowboy shooting. Darkinternational did some work on the trigger, Out of the box they were great to . Good choice. Had problems with one Uberti Stoeger tried to fix it ( they do the warranty) but could not. Roger fixed it when he did the trigger work It was a small repair to him. I'm pleased with guns.

I've been shooting .44 Mag Vaqueros and a .44 Marlin for 14 years now but am in the middle of changing over to .38 Spl, as that is what my wife shoots and I'm trying to minimize the different types of ammo I have to reload. .38 Spl is cheaper to reload also.

Are there any advantages to shooting 38 vs 45 colt or is it just a cost issue?
 
Holy thread resurection. .38 Spl / .357mag brass is easier to find over .45Long Colt.
cheaper bullets, less powder used and you may find lever actions easier to find in .357 (if you're going to do CAS.
 
YES 38s offer faster times and CAS is a SPEED game. How fast can you dump 5 rounds on a target at 10 meters? 3 seconds? try it with a 45colt!
So cost plus speed plus lost brass plus chance to do well= 38 special
 
It depends, if you are a gamer, or can't take recoil, you will be shooting 38s. There are plenty of cowboys out there that shoot 45 or 44-40, and don't really care if it puts them at a disadvantage.

Make sure you know WHY you are getting into cowboy action. Do you want to get really good and try to get low times and place high on the scoresheet? Or do you want to go out there, have fun and let those big-bore pistols buck?

Personally I try not to look at my scores and just enjoy myself, but to each their own.
