Well, I finally got my first M14. Now that I'm assured my don't won't fall off, I am a much more confident man. :D

I am, however, not happy with the "ugly" business end of my M14. Anyone seen one like this?

How does one give it cosmetic surgery, so that not only will my #### remain attached, but my M14 won't be the Ugly Betty of my collection??

Holy crap:eek: I have heard of flash hiders like that but never in my life have I seen one before. I always thought people were yanking my chain.

First, I would get back to the dealer and have him replace the rifle or, at least the FH if you can't find anything else wrong with the rifle.

Wow, there is a hole in the end at least isn't there? :runaway:

Good question...I'd check that out for sure...

You've got to wonder about the overall QC process in play here...WTF... Looks like they are definitely upholding China's reputation for fine quality...

Hey Plink- I'd do this anyway, but why not take this opportunity to install a USGI hider with bayonet lug?
Shortening the barrel to 18.5", threading the bbl and installing a modern brake and putting a Navy front sight on it is also pretty cool.

the solid flash hider was a way of getting around the US "assault weapons" legislation, there have been some in Canada before...looks like the parts bin is getting low in China

Many of the Norc M14's were sold that way. Works fine. Now you can get more velocity since there is slightly less gas escaping. :D

Seriously, it's fine!

Those fake slot flash suppressors were indeed sold with M305/M14s before but haven't seen them in recent batches......are these coming on the last batches brought in by Marstar?

Leave it as is ...or if money stuffed in your pocket is making your pants too tight, buy a USGI flash suppressor or a Vortex...

Just helped my friend turn up a M14 like that. With 150 Horndey FMJ and 42 gr Benchmark, it shoots like this:

That's 8 rounds group. As part of tradition I have to a coin there, too bad I don't have any Chinese coin, so I put something from my last China trip. :)

i have one of those solid flash hiders...... I'm having it milled to look like a muzzle brak with holes instead of slots. ;)

you should have used Mao as the target. GEE how can a Norinco shoot that good , the experts say they need US bolts to shoot decently, and gas systems, and barrels, and trigger groups. Maybe the experts are wrong?

most of the experts have in fact been saying the opposite...... at least the ones i know. BUT if you should want a "match .308" rifle..... usgi bolt is mandatory...... if you want to be able to utilize american made precision gas pistons... you should also have an american manufacture gas assembly..... if you want a good reliable trigger group that is safely tunable... you may or may not need a usgi sear/disconnector/trigger and hammer...... rinco stocks are garbage.... rinco rear sights pinions are.... mmmehhh more garbage....... so...... there ya go.
There are NO chinese aftermarket factory parts availlable for the following chinese assemblies..... as of today anyways..... and those parts would be the ones i mention above, bolt, gas system and trigger group. Bolt guts wear out, gas psitons get damaged/worn out..... trigger parts ie:sear/disconector wear out or may suffer breakage........
your only source for replacement parts are usgi or U.S. aftermarket and they may or may not fit properly or better put "as desired" in the chinese assemblies..

and these are in what kind of supply?? at what canadian retailer?? or u.s. one for that matter..... there is no comparison

Shot money? NOooooooooo.

I adjusted the trigger and did load test. That's all.

You can see there are actually two groups on the paper. It means there are some "loose parts" in the gun. They wouldn't go back to same position every time.

All those upgrades will eliminate the factor.

However I am happy with a 1 MOA M14.
