if its your first one and never fire a pistol before, i recommend that you start with a 22 cal first to get use to it.

The .22 pistol is paid for and awaiting the transfer process - it was a given :redface: - but now I'm trying to figure the next step...get a less-expensive centerfire now and add a higher-quality one later, or just save up for a bit.

Went on a bit of a purchasing rampage as of late....:wave:
 
Get an Iraqi Tariq pistol for $455 (from Weimajack on the EE), basically you're getting a decent Beretta 9mm clone for the price of a 22 - it also has an interesting history and the guys who've bought them have found them to be very serviceable, accurate and reliable. As much as I like Norcs I think these are a better buy.
 
The Norc for sure. Because if you had the Hi Point you'd never be able to hit anything other than by accident.... It's hard to aim when you've got your eyes closed to avoid looking at something so ugly.... :D

I thought you were going to say something like it was going to blow up in your face, but the ugly thing made me literally lol, and I probably woke somebody up here!!
 
Some sat start with a 22 and work up, I say buy what you like and learn to operate it, norcs are fine, I have a 45acp norc and a 7.62x25 mm norc, fun guns. &.62x25 mm is cheap ammo and gives a good report and jump when fired.
 
Norincos in 9MM using the 1911 platform are hard to come by but would be my first choice followed by their CZ and Sig Copy. Alternatively look for a used CZ 75B on the EE. I have see good ones go for $550 - $600 and they are excellent pistols.

I would go for a used CZ 75B over any of the above but not by much.

I've got both and I'd say the HiPoint is just so much more refined than the Norinco. A much, much, nicer gun all around except the cost of 40 is gonna be a lot more than 9mm so if "budget" is the real criteria, then blast away with a Norinco.
The HiPoint might be "ugly" to some but beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. :D
And, I'm not anti Norinco at all, I have 3 and love 'em all.
 
I'd say the Norinco out of the two choices given. However, have you given any thought to the Walther P1's that Tradex has for $300? Try finding another pistol of that kind of quality at that price.

OKAY. $200 Norc vs. $200 Hi-Point

$200 Norc:
Guy in a factory spends 4 hours building one earning $2/hour.
$200 - (4 hours X $2) = $192 worth of parts

$200 Hi-Point:
Guy in factory spends 4 hours building one earning $20/hour. factory spends another $20 in taxes, $20 in environmental fees, $20 in union fees, $50 in worker's comp when the guy slams his finger in the slide (because his eyes were closed due to the ugly factor).
$200 - ($20 X 4) -$20 - $20 - $20 - $50 = $10 worth of parts

"Made in USA" dosen't mean what it used to... :p

Oh, and Marstar's got a warranty on their Norcs too!:D

Common open your mind brother, buy Norinco doesn't mean you are a commie. On the other hand there are lemons growth both in China and the State, buying made in USA not as perfect as before. No matter which one you buy, we are support out local importer.
