UK shooter

Hi
Thought i'd introduce myself to this site, only found it today and already its answered some of my questions just by reading some of the posts.
Both myself and partner are shooters here in the UK and for the past year have been taking part in cowboy action shoots, I previously used to shoot a lot of ipsc both pistol and shotgun.
At the moment we are toying with the idea of leaving the UK and moving to the other side of the pond.
So getting my priorities in order i started by checking out Canadian gun laws, requirements, clubs etc.
Still got plenty of questions so look out for what may be some dumb ones, not sure yet were to post them, guessing the newbie section.
Please bear with me when i start and any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Peter

Welcome - I definitely would want to leave the UK if I was there - a great nation ruled by petty bureaucrats and politically correct 'nanny-staters'...

Hope you find what you are looking for - also, the search engine here defaults to "last two weeks" so when doing an advanced search for newbie questions - change this to the last year, etc. Or longer - you will find a lot of stuff in the newbie section.

Welcome to the mighty CGN, Peter!
Have you read the Newbie FAQ Section yet?
The link is in my sigline below.

Cheers,

Dean

Hi
Thanks for your replies.
I would love to move to the US but it seems virtually impossible for a Brit to get a work permit.
There may be some strict and confused gun laws in Canada but coming from the UK they seem very good to me.

Welcome!

My dad jumped the bond when he was young and couldn't be happier. Hope you make the trip!

Welcome on board Peter.

There's always room for more shooters in Canada. If you need research help when looking at the various areas of Canada, just scream.

Welcome Peter! You may have lousy gun laws but you have the best beer in the world!! Choices, choices...

Don't wait to put in your paperwork...takes forever to get into Canada if you do it "right"...just come over and claim refugee status for prosecution from the anti-gunners...

Welcome. We can always use people who have seen where uncontrolled socialism and nanny state-ism leads, and will (hopefully) help us fight against it here in Canada.

p.s. And Toronto is not that bad. I know. I live here.

If you move here, move out west, South. Ont.(Toronto) is like Briton.

True. Depending on your current location and occupation, you might find the GTA very much like the London area. Traffic can be horrible. Some neighbourhoods are so choked with new Canadians that English is a minority language in the schools and shops.

Still, even in the worst areas, the norm is single family homes with at least a small yard. Apartments and condos exist in large numbers, but out of choice, not an absence of choice.

If your tolerance for commuting, or your job skills allow you the flexibility to live outside the GTA, you'll find it much more relaxed.

For IPSC, Ontario has a very large number of active clubs. CAS has it's followers, but isn't as big as it might be. A lot of clubs have participated, but it hasn't taken hold widely.

Welcome Peter if you go to the States you can claim asylum, just tell them that Britain is full of terrorists.Just kidding Canada is a much safer country still. I arrived here in January of 65 and I love it.
