UltiMAK-M1 carbine

The M-1 Carbine is on the U.S. 'requires an export permit' list. The folding stock on UltiMAK's page isn't made by them. It's made by Choate. You might find one of them in Canada.
Putting a scope on a carbine screws the balance up too. Especially if it's on the barrel.

I agree with the balance thing, and will try and avoid the barrel mount. I've found a mount that replaces the rear sight...
Which brings up another moral topic:
M1 carbine aftermarket goodies.:) Since it's not an original mil carbine, and it's a commercial variety, I don't feel so bad about putting a few things on it. I don't want to be another bubba, but I like the Choate stock for the carbine, and I'll probably add the aftermarket mount with a eotech on top for fun.
If it was an original mil piece, I would definetely refrain from all the fancy stuff, and keep it in it's wooden glory.:)

"...it's a commercial variety..." Which one? If it's a Universal Choate stuff won't fit. And no milsurp parts will fit on the Late models. Two return springs, a toggle for the bolt hold open and a badly stamped op handle.
A scope mounted anywhere on a carbine will bugger the balance.

Will a Plainfield fit the Choate? Is it just the universals that are not compatible with the milsurp parts? I also notice that the metal ventilated handguard will only fit the mil ones. Could a little machining and modification make these fit the plainfield?

Thanks for your input so far. It's been very helpful.
