i recently acquired a remington model 14 in 35 rem, it was drilled and tapped for a scope. I will mount my Aim Master scope on it once i have the bases figured out, it has a post reticile. this rifle has me thinking what is the lightest rifle, easy on the shoulder, good for 150yds max for deer
 
I once had a very nice 760 in 35Remington that would fit that bill as well.

Classic Fudd guns that don't require a chassis to be cool. :)

A Winchester 94 in .30-30 fits the bill pretty well... 6 1/4 to 6 1/2 lbs, easy to carry, adequate ballistics and sights to 150 yds, low recoil.

However, my personal definition of the ultimate deer rifle would need to be more versatile. I would pick a Mauser action with a 22" barrel chambered in 7x57, open sights and a quick detachable scope. Use the open sights and 175-grainers in thick bush, and use the scope with 140's-150's to reach out in open country. Or just use 160 grs for everything. I tried to have that definition built into a rifle, and it's very close, but overbudget in the weight dept. I would want 7 lbs max with the scope removed.

My grandfather took many deer in his younger days with a .22lr. Called them into his stand and placed one between the eyes. About as ethical as you could ever get. Never underestimate the capabilities of the little .22lr.

It's only a no go now because it's the preferred caliber of poachers.
 
Savage 99 in 300 savage if i had to pick one as ultimate. As too your question.. Lightest rifle... easy on the shoulder inside 150 yards deer getter. id go cz 527 7.62x39.

Stag 10 338fed..... next best would be a lee enfield no1 mk3 in a monte carlo stock and the barrel shaved down a wee bit.
 
This year I used a Zastava 6.5x55 in a 13.5" LOP B&C stock with a Leupold 2-7x33mm scope, firing a 129SST at 2820 fps. Three deer down. It was close to perfect - but the trigger needs work and the feeding showed an issue that needs correction. I am slowly progressing on my quest to the perfect deer rifle.

I have that exact rifle only mine has a 23" bbl. It made pretty much everything else I own redundant. I shoot 120gr NBTs for my deer load and 160 NPs for moose.

Finally got a 7 x 57...too late for the season. But my collection always needed a 7 x 57... scored a Spanish mauser. Can't put glass on it in the conventional way...milsurp don't hold value at all when it meets a drill press.
But looking forward to it irregardless
 
There is no way to speculate on the "ultimate" rifle, as it will vary from person to person and region to region. I agree with 9.3mauser that it should be versatile, but even that definition will fluctuate... where I hunt, most shots will be under 100 yards, but some may reach out to 300 yards in specific locations... I like a bolt action rifle in .358 Win but also use a plethora of other cartridges. In many Western or mountainous locals, the .358 Win would hardly be "ultimate" with shots of 500+ yards distinctly possible. I would say that there is no such thing as an ultimate deer rifle... only some choices that are better than others.
 
Hard to beat the new Model 70s made by FN and Browning!

I've got the newer Winchester Model 70 featherweight with the controlled round feed in .30-06. Topped with a Burris Fullfield 3x9x40 with the simple reticle. It has dropped many bucks and black bears, and handles and points like a dream too !
