I have been at the Leupold factory in Beaverton Oregon and watched them test scopes in a large vat of pressurized water. The vat is clear plexiglass and the pressure will force any leakes in the scopes to show up as a stream of air bubbles. If they find one that leaks (a rare occurrence) then it is removed and rebuilt. This unit would be tagged for addtional specific inspection and if it failed a second time then the scope would be dismantled and the original body scrapped to be melted down to start from the beginning. Every Leupold scope is tested this way...not just random samples. Phil.
