I would suggest that the action length in a non magnum cartridge like 30-06 and a 300 WinMag are damn near identical.I don't really care about recoil, the things i don't "like" about magnum is the length of the barrel and the long action.

Caliber. If its a "one rifle" then my caliber choices would be 270, 7mag, 30-06, 300wm. Depends on your normal game, and recoil tolerance. You mentioned moose, but......
Get a good bolt action, not a entry level pos.
Hmmmmm. If your talking about the Model Seven HS Pecision Stock SS I don’t see that rifle in the 300wsw?It would be worth your while to look at the new Remington model seven in 300 wsm. The new stock is supposed to be very good for a factory offering, short and handy. No detachable mag, but honestly they are over rated.
And just when I was going to tell you all about my full wood
'inexpensive' Zastava in 9.3x62 aka .366 Wagner
.
While that is a great rifle, its not what the OP asked. I have had Zastava rifles, solid meat and potatoes " Chevrolet " trim level. Many entry level rifles are "Yugo" or " Lada" quality. Poor functioning and when one wants to upgrade unsellable or only at a huge loss. The four calibers i chose were the ones i would recommend as a one rifle does all.
Really, Moose are not particularly tough, take out one or both lungs, they don't go far. Many calibers that could maintain say 1800 lbs of energy out to 300 yards would do. Most of my Moose have been taken at short range, so many times( but not always) the energy is not needed.
Just like the 35 cal thread, i have rifles with more common bores, allowing me to bypass 9.3/366. I almost exclusively reload, but in a pinch could buy ammo for my rifles.
YMMV....
