ultimate Yote gun? 223? 204? 22-250?

out of the three if hand loading 22-250 with 60gr. 223 with 55gr.bullets and I wouldn't even bother with the 204 its a gopher cartridge .

I take it you never shot a yote with a .204.I had a 22-250 and sold it for a .204.It drops them like a hammer in the head , and that's comes from a guy who's has three in the family and lots of dead yotes.

I personally use my 243 most of the time, But when calling coyotes (shots 250 and under) I always had one shot kills with my trusty 22 hornet with 35 grain vmaxes, Let the undergunned comments ensue ;)

No arguments here;) I'm using a 20 VT in the morning for my calling rifle.
I currently use a 17 FB, 20 Tactical, 22-250 and will be trying the 20VT.
In past years I shot coyotes with a 223 Rem. and 6mm Rem
Hell, I like them all:eek:

I'd listen to this fellow. He can call coyotes like the veritable Pied Piper. :)

The two calibers I haven't seen mentioned yet are .17 and .30.

If ranges are not too long, the .17 will kill a yote dead with virtually no pelt damage. If ranges are a bit longer and you don't care about pelt damage a .308 shooting 110gr VMAX's or 125gr BT's will kill coyotes like the hammer of god himself. The VMAX's are outright evil on yotes. They typically leave about a 3" exit hole and a body cavity that looks like tomato soup.

For all around use, my vote is the .243 Win with 70gr BT's. It kills yotes deader than dead and will do it at extended ranges where the .224's are running out of steam.

22-250 for me too. The .223 is cheaper to buy and reload, the recoil is less too but Ive seen good and bad hits with both and the 22-250 leaves a significantly better blood trail when a bad body shot is made.

It has the added benefit of being able to take wolves too, eastern ontario you never know what will come to the call, but the .270 win is best for them.

We sell a lot of Coopers(and other brands) to very serious predator shooters. One of their favorites for really long range is the 6.5-284. Those long, high BC bullets and the accuracy of the Cooper enable them to hit at very long range.

Before I was able to get a coyote only gun (243) I hunted deer,1 moose, and many coyotes with a 25-06. It reached out & killed real well. It just ripped the hides beyon repair. This is not a prob now as they arn't worth picking up. (In Sask you will still have all 4 feet :) )

How about a 6mm/284.

I like mine.

Another vote for the .204, it wont have the punch a .22-250 does at long ranges though.
I chose to shoot it over the .22-250 because it it quieter, faster (I don't handload), has zero recoil (you can watch bullet impact through scope), it will not riccochet.
Most of my coyote hunting is done under 400, mostly 200 and in typical farm land where a noise and bouncing bullets can be a concern.
And wind, the .204 is no more prone to wind drift than any other hot rod rifle.
