Ultimatum action

Just saw it at the show on the weekend got to play with one and talk to the reps it’s not often you can do that. Also I have a few savage barrels kicking around as well as some rem triggers even a rem stock or too that could get it up and running if necessary. I’m not a fan of 60 degree actions but mabee its time to give one a try

If you saw and handled one in person and liked it, and had a good vibe from your conversations with the reps, then there's no real reason not to get it. By single feeding it and doing your own stock work, you negate some of the downsides I mention. And a heavier bolt lift won't kill you in prone (F-class). The only real potential negative I can see (besides bolt lift) is the smaller ejection port for single feeding, but since you saw it in person you can determine if it's going to be an issue or not.

I'm personally not a fan of 3 lug actions, as their perceived advantages (quicker bolt throw) aren't as big of an advantage as some say (more often than not it's more of a detriment IMO) and come with their own issues. There's a plethora of great 2 lug actions out there. If it was me, I would probably be looking at the Defiance Deviant and spec it the way I wanted it and with a DLC or nitrided finish. Though I do understand that a lot of these actions are harder to come by in Canada and with a premium placed on them.

At the end of the day, the actions main job is to get rounds into the chamber, and extract upon firing. For your intended uses, the Deadline should be able to handle that fine. If you are happy with what you saw in the action, and liked the CS, then why not go for it.

The Deadline does not have a 23# bolt lift, that is absurd. My Deadline's bolt lift is equal if not lighter than my Tikka, and MUCH smoother. Even the earliest Deadlines would have had a MUCH lighter lift that 23#.

Sure it's not a complete drop in to M700 inlets, but it was never claimed to be a 100% drop in. However, a light skim on the mag latch and shortened action screws are all that's needed for most installs into M700 inlet chassis.

Having said that, I've tried the Deadlnie in MPA, KRG, XLR, chassis, all without issue. MDT is now coming out with a revised inlet that has proper support below the rear tang now, and works great with the Deadline, they'll even ship the chassis with the proper mag latch if you specify that it's for a Deadline. Ontop of that, McMillan, AND Manners both have Deadline specific inlets now, with the cutout for the ejection port on the stock that matches perfect to the Deadline.

Some companies like MPA are now coming out with adjustable heigh mag latches, as they recognize that it's becoming more and more common when running different custom actions that trimming of the mag latch is required to seat mags.

I have had 0 issues feeding from AW or AI mags, I've run them in .308, 6.5 creed, 6.5 PRC, 6 creed, and 6 comp match with 100% reliability, you just need to skim ~50 thou off the mag latch for the mags to seat.

Here's a link to a video from Nic Kytlica, the Leupold USA rep running his Deadline, looks pretty smooth and effortless to me!

To the OP: Ultimatum has a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so if you aren't happy with it for whatever reason, you can send it back for a full refund. How's that for putting money where their mouths are!

This here I can say is very true, myself was not a happy camper, and was 100% reimbursed after trying it for 100-150 rounds.

Right?

What other rifle manufacturer will do that for you?

OP, just give them a try, worse case you can just send it back.
