Just looking for some first hand feedback about this action. I'm aware of the issues that come with it in terms of stock fitment. I'm more concerned about smoothness, bolt lift, bolt close, negatives, positives, etc. I'm also not looking for alternative action recommendations. I currently run an arc nucleus, bighorn origin and bighorn tl3 for reference. I'm looking to build a 223 on this action. So if any owners care to share what they love and what they hate and if it's a good buy that would much appreciated. Thanks

I built a .233 on the Deadline action and really like it. You can get chassis that work out of the box for it like the MDT ACC. I used MDT polymer magazines and I had to file a tiny slot on the top of the magazine to get it to lock in. Otherwise nothing but good things to say.

I was an early adopter way back.
AW mag cut fed terribly with AICS mags, even after a mag tune.
Did not drop in to R700 compatible stocks without work.
Bolt lift was more than I had ever felt on any bolter.
Barrel threads we're too tight and off, while the same barrels freely spun in savage and Origin actions.

While I ended up hating the action, they did end up 100% reimbursing me so they do stand up for customer satisfaction.

Interesting. I do recall years ago you had a thread going about that action. I'm finding more positive feedback than negative in my research. I know bolt lift will be heavier, but my nucleus actions have got me used to 3 lug lift. I'm heavily considering giving one of these a try.

In my opinion, ARC nucleus is better in almost every way.
But that’s just my opinion, and is not an expert one at that…

Bighorn origin was my go to action in the end, I had 3 of those and would do so anytime again.

Gen 1 are fine. It's the very early production ones I was referencing, and I suspect that's what MartyK2500 had too. Mid to late Gen1s are great, especially ones mated with IBI barrels.

I do like the nucleus. I kept my long action but sold the short after getting my origin. The origin is a better feeling action in my opinion. I used my nucleus money to put towards my tl3.

Mine was set up with an early iBi barrel.
Didn’t thread in too well, neither did Savage barrels as I suspected iBi barrels at first.

Yes, I had purchased gen 0.9 figure of speech, was a pre-production purchase.

Just assembled my last LR rifle using an Origin gen 2 and a brand new iBi .308 MTU barrel.
Quite a sweet build, let’s hope it keeps me in the sport as the lack of competitions and losing touch with my LR shooting group since march 2020 has got me feeling pretty jaded towards shooting.

We never know I may impulse sell everything soon and reorient myself hobby wise!

They are the best "budget" action going from what I've seen. I love mine and am even considering getting another. The price of the barreled action deadline is too appealing to ignore.

Too bad you're losing interest. I'm just ramping up as I've got a good shooting group and we've found some awesome long range spots.

That 308 IBI barrel I got off you is working well so far. Got it spun onto my tl3. Going to beat the hell out of it, haha

Ah that’s why the username rings a bell!
Feed it 42.7-43gn of varget with a 175 SMK bullet and you won’t be disappointed.

Actual tidbit, when I was shooting at Connaught many guys we’re thinking that barrel had a 3075 bore.
Never had the chance to slug it, but you will see, even with a low 42.7-43 of Varget you’ll be chronographing in the early 2700.

Which is nice for a 175 class bullet and such a low powder charge!

I have SN#22 deadline. I know some people have had issues with the heavy bolt lift and weak springs, mine has exhibited neither of those issues. Still original barrel, ~600 rounds 6.5x47. My only gripe is the very shortsighted choice the designers made with the footprint but if you get a chassis with the right inlet it's not an issue.

I was looking to drop it in an XRS or a Bravo. Did you have to tune mags? How's bolt close? I think I read that this action is a 50/50 so there is a bit of a hitch on close? Thanks

Mine dropped in a mdt ess no problem. No tuning mags but need the shorter mag catch which mdt will provide.

I have a single shot Deadline setup for F-Class which is all I shoot. One of the best actions I have seen for this. I really like the way the bolt lifts and stops due to the lugs. Feeds very smoothly. I am thinking of getting a second one now. I like having actions and barrels made in Canada particularly when the quality is superb..
