Got an ultimatum HMB action ordered on the $1099 black friday price. I will be very interested to get this in my hands. Actions are going to be fully DLC coated and with the coned bolt nose should enhance feeding nicely. I will be building a 223 for my daughter on this action and probably will end up in a manners CS stock.

What are the actual specs of this action? The website is so dumb as it just tells the backstory of the hmb name. What's the tenon, and what's the deal about it not coming with a recoil lug? Would be nice to know what you are getting

I believe the tenon spec is proprietary, it has a coned breach and isn't compatible with any off the shelf prefits, as far as I know... Dunno about the recoil lug?

Guessing no recoil lug as everybody makes a recoil lug no need to mess around doing it themselves. Not sure what the thread pit h of the tennon is eitherbut like dave said with the coned breach its not going to be common rem 700, or savage ect i would guess it will be 1-1/16 16tpi or 18tpi. I did ask IBI what the tennon is but havent received a response yet.

Easy pass then. No recoil lug is weird and seems like the option for prefits is non existent as the headspace will depend on the recoil lug being used. Enjoy your action, it definitely looks good and the price is nice. I'll spend more on an Origin or ARC

A barrel nut prefit could be done no problem. If i was a betting man i would figure ibi will offer prefits for them. I do my own barrels so prefits are not a concern for me but i can see it being one for others.

Yeah for sure, but barrel nuts suck and being able to just order a barrel off a print from a smith is very convenient. Sending in an action to be measured is a deal breaker. Making your own is great, sadly I don't have that ability

Ibi will be offering prefits for it. Most people run a .250 lug so i dont see why any other barrel maker couldnt offer a barrel setup to use a .250 lug for them.all they need to know is the drawing tennon length plus whatever thickness of lug you want to run.

Yeah I see mdt makes a lug. Now you have to make sure your lug is aligned when installing the barrel. I have no experience with this as my lugs are pinned or integral. So you'd need a special wrench to ensure proper alignment? I'm not trying to give you a hard time and I know you aren't IBI, I'm just struggling with the thought process here, LoL. I like their products, the look, and the price, and I had a deadline I enjoyed so I'm not trying to crap on IBI/ultimatum.

That kind of goes without saying. Not many actions these days that you can't run a nut on. Seems like they didn't intend this to run shouldered barrels without sending it to a smith

While prefits are all the rage today (and its silly to not make an action that doesn't have this feature in this day and age) - it's easily mitigated by the user if you send your action off to your preferred gunsmith once, and they can keep measurements of your specific action on file to make shouldered "prefits" for in the future.

For sure, it's just an odd thing to not have a standard lug and tenon print so the Smith can use that to make a barrel without you sending in your action.

That extra effort qualifies you for one of the benefits of a prefit: not having to send in the action to obtain a new barrel.

However, it doesn't qualify you for the other benefits:
- lower price options (i.e. PVA from GoBig)
- freedom to try a different gunsmith
- freedom to try other barrel brands
