Ultimatum precision

This fluting direction (top version in particular) invites depressurization of the left side lugway in the event of a case rupture.
This is how it should be done, regardless of how many companies do it the wrong way.

If you are ever around to witness what happens to a shooters face when a case side wall ruptures, you'll appreciate my point.

What you don't know could fill a book.

I've been asking these guys a lot of questions and they've answered them all pretty well. As an update, they are going to be making Savage(20TPI) threads standard now so people can make use of all the savage prefits. Seems like a good action to me.

For the US currency: it is used because USA represents a huge amount of our market. We have the Canadian MAP set at $1300.

We are switching to 20 TPI. Savage pre-fit barrels can then be used. Rem-age barrels will not fit our 16TPI actions, as these barrels have a counter-bore on the breech face.

Our bolt fluting is not there for over-pressure safety. It is there to catch debris/dirt and as mentioned, helps prevent the action from freezing-up. Pressure-relief hole does it's job just fine.

I am hoping to have mine back from the chou brothers this week. It is being chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor with a Benchmark barrel in a BH varmint contour.
Will put out a full review of the action in the next couple weeks.

I will have it with me at the PSOC practice in Meaford on November 5th if any one wants to look at it.

Bullseye London also has a couple in Stock.

Ryan, I'm looking forward to your review. Unfortunately, I can't make it up this weekend to see it first hand, but maybe I'll swing by Bullseye this week.

To clarify, with the pre-fit Savage barrels the rifle owner could swap the barrel from a 308win to a 6.5CM or visa versa with no need to send to a gunsmith?

If that's the case that makes this a very attractive action. The video makes it look easy to swamp the bolt head too, meaning one could train with a 223rem, then switch the bolt face and barrel for the match caliber (6mm, 6.5mm, ect). Same stock, same scope.

I could be wrong but I think the tenon on this guy is going to be shorter than the Insite Arms action.

A lot of 3 lug 700 based actions running around these days - maybe magpul will start making AT/AX mags soon.

Solid bottom is in the works. Should be available for order pretty quick.

Changing barrels with a barrel nut system will require the use of go-gauges specific to the caliber your barrel is chambered in. You don't need to get a gunsmith to machine threads.

This would be a huge win. If I hadn't already placed an order for an expensive rifle I would very likely go this route. The idea of having one action, one stock, one scope, a couple of barrels a few mags.

The Ultimatum is a fat bolt three-lug, so there is no left raceway to vent.

The nose of the fat bolt body seals behind the lugs and escaping gas will vent down the feed ramp and blow the magazine out the bottom.

mmm... fluting a safety feature....... who would have thought? :)

Are there any other custom actions out there that offer the pre-fit barrel option that we can compare this to?

The Bighorn TL3/ Tactical, Shilen DGR, and the Mausingfield all use 20TPI savage threads for the use of pre-fits. Many have built them with pre-fits and they shoot very well. Lots of those types of builds on the Snipers hide forum.
